Quoted for truth.Devs game, Devs rules ^_^
Everyone's all about 'breaking genre standards' until it's done in a way they don't like, then they're all 'but that's not how things are supposed to work'.
Accept each games style. Challenging raids in ARR are 8-man, as intended, with 24-man saved for more a casual experience. So says the devs.
IF the devs made solo player content and called them raids... would that also be a raid? Would a scientist saying the sky is Brown make it true?
They need to stop calling them raids. They by the definition of the term RAID is not a single party in a mmo.
8 man is fine if they want to focus purely on low man content for difficulty. Just call it what it is full party content.
They need to call it what it is party content. It is not breaking Genre Standards... it is just not adding raids. All mmo have party content, they just call it that.
If they made a 50 man raid and it was just hundreds of trash mobs that took hours to clear and one boss, does that make it somehow better or more interesting.
They are planning to release brutal mode Coil so there is always a small chance that once they add in alliances and the ability to queue as an alliance that they could add a non-nerfed brutal mode of CT.
Pre-made alliances are scheduled for 2.35, but it's best to assume that raids geared towards the hardcore with 10+ people won't be around until first expansion or after.
8 is 2 less people then WoW popular 10 raiding. 8m is also made up of two 4 man parties combined into 1, just as 10m is made of 2 two 5 man parties in WoW. Large gigantic 40m "raids" are not only incredibly dull, reduced to tank spank or zerg fests, but are a nightmare to organize. Honestly there is nothing wrong with the number of players in the raid, it's the raid design that could use tweaking.IF the devs made solo player content and called them raids... would that also be a raid? So, you define Praetorium, Castrum, Hard Mode/Extreme Mode primals all as Raids? Or full 8 man FATE parties, are they "raids" too?
The game doesn't even attempt to stretch "raid" to cover the rest of the 8 man content.
A raid is more than one group. FF14 has the 8 man group, which they decided to cut in half for much of the leveling instanced content.
We need more actual raids. FF14 is the only MMO (that I'm aware of) that has NO end-game raid content. The only reason I can think of that they are calling Coil "raid" is so they can get away with not admitting that they have no end-game raids.
To correct you .. 8 man is a "full PARTY" made up of two 4 man "light PARTY" combined into one.8 is 2 less people then WoW popular 10 raiding. 8m is also made up of two 4 man parties combined into 1, just as 10m is made of 2 two 5 man parties in WoW. The CT raid is multiple 8 man "full PARTY" running around in the same instance.
You are correct - there is nothing wrong with the number of people in the raid (24). However, since they are only one party, you can't call Coil a raid and they need to both stop calling it a raid, and introduce actual end-game raids.
If you are going to cite another game, so shall I. In Everquest, you have 6 man groups. Group content is designed around having up to 6 people there. The Raid system, introduced for Planes of Power over a decade ago, supports twelve such groups - 72 people in all. A couple of expansions later, they reduced the number of people instances could hold by 3 groups, down to 54, but the raid system still supports 72.
The raids in EQ are also a lot more complicated than mere zergs or tank'n'spank. http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/q...tml?quest=5081 for example, has more than just tank'n'spank involved. http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/q...tml?quest=3351 was fun pandemonium. http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/q...tml?quest=7416 has a lot more than tank and spank - plenty of kiting and other crowd control in addition to the tank'n'spank.
Raids can be a lot more than what we have here in FF14 atm, a lot more than WoW's zerg and tank'n'spank raids. We all just need to recognize that 8 man Full Party content is NOT raid content, and SE need to stop calling some Full Party content "raid" and other Full Party content "group".

You are arguing terminology in place of arguing content because you don't agree with 8m raids. Though I doubt even if they used the word raid instead of full party you would not complain. To correct you .. 8 man is a "full PARTY" made up of two 4 man "light PARTY" combined into one.

When 8 people form a party the game shows FULL PARTY in big caps, therefore 8 man content is full party content and not a raid. A raid would be alliance content, as in multiple full parties in this game's case 3 full parties, FATEs not included of course. Therefore CT is currently the only raid until CT2 is added in a week. Don't see how that's so hard to understand or why people are coming with silly justifications to call 8 man content a raid.
