Thread: Did they hint at rogue class in 2.2 story?

Of course I knew it ahead of time as the main reason I resubbed was their e3 showing. I even stated I knew it when I said Yoshi P hinted at the upcoming class rogue as you said. However my question was if anyone else believes they were playing on words with that particular section of the dialogue and I see no reason to delete this because you failed to read properly and understand the purpose of the thread..

Chrisbox, I can see where you're coming from, in stating that prior to the release information about the Rogue/Ninja classes, by Yugiri stating that she would teach the Eorzeans her techniques, meant that a new class would be introduced - which aligns with the way she battled the enemies in the Sapsa Spawning Ground.

At least, that's what I am getting from your post. Basically, if you played the 2.2 patch all the way to the end, it's hinted that Rogue would be the next class. Because, Yugiri is clearly not a Thief. :P

Uriel, there's no need to be rude to someone who's excited about something they picked up on in the story dialogue.

The OP is not claiming that he had no idea of the rogue class coming up. To me it reads that in hindsight, it seems that SE was hinting at rogue/ninja back in 2.2, before the official announcement. He's not asking for an explanation, he's asking if we thought it was a clever little thing hidden in there.

Urielparadox, you clearly know nothing about lore. I also personally hate snobby people on forums who say, "Don't talk to us, go read X." So please shut the fuck up.

Chrisbox, Yosida confirmed in an interview that the main scenario played out with the announcement of a new class and new job in mind. It was all according to plan.

I got a feeling that Yugiri will be ninja quest giver. Will the guy that we had to meet at the bottom of Limsa be rogue guildmaster though?

Well, Yugiri said she'd teach us her technique => ninja.
She's then introduced to an underground organization made of scoundrels (it was said during a cutscene), and then we accompany her to see a "gatekeeper" to this organization.

Yugiri having said there was some similarities between both styles, it was quite clear she'd teach her skill in addition to what these people knew, hence Rogue/Thief/Whatever-you-want-to-call-them would be the class, and Ninja the job :3

Yogiri(sp) battled mobs like a ninja, whats his name the traitor battled mobs like a thief, which according to lore are now called rogues. They made it a very specific point of the cut scene to point out class/job. If this was 2 months ago yes, but not now that we have confirmation.

This guy comes back after having stopped, went through the Leviathan questline, and noticed it was announced. He obviously wasn't here when we all did the questline some 3 months ago, and thus had no idea that such a topic was made.

Even if someone posts something gameplay related, we usually answer him without flaming him for posting in the wrong section.
This forum is one of the few where people can talk without attacking each others, and that would be nice if that could stay like that.

I thought it was fairly obvious that they were introducing us with a new class.

Both Yugiri and Thancred got a chance to show of their skills, and Yugiri later on promises to teach her fighting style to an organisation in Limsa. To me (and many others) this was an obvious introduction to an upcoming class. I originally expected her to come back in smaller quests for several patches before we would actually gain access to it, but it turn out that will already take place in 2.4

In the same way, Yugiri is an introduction to the new race we will be getting.
It is outright stated in the main scenario that she hides her face to avoid panic, because she looks very different from the 5 races. So she is a walking talking teaser preview of the upcoming race. All we know at the moment is that the new race will have a scaly tail, and either horn or some sort of long ears judging by her hood.

ps: I wonder how they are going to handle that scene after the new race becomes available. People are obviously going to change race -for fun or permanently- meaning that there will be plenty of Yugiri-race adventurers in Eorzea, giving her no reason to hide her face.

Well, that's assuming that they make that new race playable. Just because an NPC is a certain race doesn't mean we get to play it. What if that race is super rare, like Yugiri's comment makes it seem? We'll just have to wait and see.
