FF14's path hauntly similar to SWTOR

For many players like myself, we are veterans of several MMO's from WoW, FF11 to even SWTOR. But the largest expectation for me 4 years ago for a mmo was one game, SWTOR. I literally waited for almost 2 years for the game to come to expect something incredible to only have my hopes dashed within 10 months. SWTOR built a incredible gaming experience similar to FF14 in regards to the leveling experience, but when you finally got to lvl 50 similar to FF14 it all went downhill from there.

First, besides EA's greediness that also was a factor, the game designers of SWTOR focused more on the leveling experience and not on the experience of the Endgame material. SWTOR had great combat systems and flash animations but repeatitive and old PVE content, and also a broken to this day PVP system that surprisingly follows a similar method to FF14 right now. Then they also had a complete lackluster of end game gear that was based on lockout that made it in where others could not join raids unless they could at a specific time slot similar to what others are seeing in FF14. These are just a couple of things I have been seeing as a trend for FF14 that does really compare to the mistakes Bioware made with SWTOR that lead to that game going F2P. 10 months ago I read others making those statements with absolute disbelieve in them, but now after experiencing these aspects myself I conclude unless SE learns from past MMO failures, they are doomed to repeat the mistakes of the past.

No, SWTOR didn't fail because of the lockouts, it failed because it was so easy to "complete" the game. It failed because one of the raids last boss was RNG based on which bugs you got that week. It failed because of gear disparity getting worse and worse in PvP as at launch PvP was constant as it was pretty evenly balanced. PvP gear treadmill killed that. Also their "open world" PvP was a huge disaster. PvP balance was lolorific. It became too easy to have literally nothing to do. except the same small number of dailies they added in a later patch which took literally 15-20 mins to complete.

    I started MMOs with EQ1 bac k in '99.

Sapphic, I agree with everything you stated. But if you google and look at the subs numbers for SWTOR and what they claimed at that time what they were and then not disclosing active accounts like SE does now, you can see a clear comparison of the 2. This is but one example on the similar traits that is affecting FF14 right now. Just google SWTOR patch history with their lack of new endgame content and compare it to FF14 and you will see similar designs. Also I want to mention that pvp was broken as you stated during the beginning of SWTOR lifespan even to this day but also PVP is broken on FF14 by alot of people in the same regards. Like I said, look up what happened to SWTOR, then look at FF14 in the last 10 months and be shocked on the similarities if you do not believe me.

A new patch is about to come out. If you ever notice, about a month before a new patch drops people start to get bored and restless. More and more doomsday post start appearing. Makes for a good social study really.

I am not complaining about solely lockout since others have already have a 20+ post on that already. I am stating my comparison to SWTOR to FF14 on how if you read what happened in that game 10 months and then look what FF14 has done since August, you will notie a similar trend in bad game design with rehashed or lack of new content.

As you 2 stated, isn't it a poor sign that people quit playing after only a few weeks to maybe a couple of months to wait for a new patch to come? There has to be something to that....its not only the player base but a lack of good quality content that will keep people occupied past one patch to another than does not rely on rehashed content that SE tends to enjoy putting out. That is exactly why SWTOR went to F2P because a lack of fulfilling content in regards to endgame.
