So when I first got FFXIV it was because I wanted to play FF and I saw a video where someone dropped a meteor. I love it, I love everything about the game but I for the life of me cannot figure out what job to focus on.
I really liked the DoTs and the pets of the SMN, but when I got my ACN to 30 I initially went SCH because my roomate was playing a WAR at the time (he has sinced stopped playing). I really enjoy the healing on the SCH, the pet and the shields, but also want something to do when I am not healing as I do not play with my WAR roomate all the time.
So I picked up my SMN job crystal, and I like it a lot, I mean, why wouldn't I, it's basically like being an ACN, but if I decide to be the SMN, I have to put my attributes into int right, because there is no point in putting them in piety? I never seem to have mana management problems really, so doing 30 piety seems wasteful, but I don't know if I can afford to switch back and forth.
I had been leveling the THM for swiftcast though and I really like him too, the whole fire/ice mana balance thing is really fun and I will still get to drop meteors, I don't even have thundercloud or firestarter yet so it's only going to get more fun right?
So it seems like I could DPS on my SMN and level a WHM to heal on instead of SCH or I can heal on my SCH and dps on a BLM. I can't really decide what to go with. Is one more desirable of a class? I really want to focus on 50 and gearing up and getting into a static group, but I don't know what to do. I feel like I prefer the SCH to the WHM but I also love the SMN.
I have also been trying to level pugilist. Melee is a lot of fun too. Are monks viable/needed in the end game? I have noticed he has a much shorter queue time for the duty finder so it seems like melee are more in demand, given that would it be best to do MNK/SCH, I really like to do dungeons and it would be nice to be able to find groups a little faster.
Thanks in advance for any details or tips you can give me as I level up.

The good thing is that you can do everything on one character, and you'll probably end up leveling other jobs for cross class skills so if you change your mind at any point, chances are you'll already have a few levels on other jobs.
