Trouble Figuring out a Job to play

So when I first got FFXIV it was because I wanted to play FF and I saw a video where someone dropped a meteor. I love it, I love everything about the game but I for the life of me cannot figure out what job to focus on.

I really liked the DoTs and the pets of the SMN, but when I got my ACN to 30 I initially went SCH because my roomate was playing a WAR at the time (he has sinced stopped playing). I really enjoy the healing on the SCH, the pet and the shields, but also want something to do when I am not healing as I do not play with my WAR roomate all the time.

So I picked up my SMN job crystal, and I like it a lot, I mean, why wouldn't I, it's basically like being an ACN, but if I decide to be the SMN, I have to put my attributes into int right, because there is no point in putting them in piety? I never seem to have mana management problems really, so doing 30 piety seems wasteful, but I don't know if I can afford to switch back and forth.

I had been leveling the THM for swiftcast though and I really like him too, the whole fire/ice mana balance thing is really fun and I will still get to drop meteors, I don't even have thundercloud or firestarter yet so it's only going to get more fun right?

So it seems like I could DPS on my SMN and level a WHM to heal on instead of SCH or I can heal on my SCH and dps on a BLM. I can't really decide what to go with. Is one more desirable of a class? I really want to focus on 50 and gearing up and getting into a static group, but I don't know what to do. I feel like I prefer the SCH to the WHM but I also love the SMN.

I have also been trying to level pugilist. Melee is a lot of fun too. Are monks viable/needed in the end game? I have noticed he has a much shorter queue time for the duty finder so it seems like melee are more in demand, given that would it be best to do MNK/SCH, I really like to do dungeons and it would be nice to be able to find groups a little faster.

Thanks in advance for any details or tips you can give me as I level up.

So your question is down to

"I want to play the jobs that able to find group for hardcore endgame content, should I roll as SMN or MONK?"

    The answer is

YES! both SMN and MNK is high demand for endgame content as heavy damage dealer, you will find alot group looking for good DPS as SMN/MNK alot often

So, pick one and play the one you liked

You can heal just fine with all points put into INT. You can heal as SCH and dps as SMN.

Some things you should level are CNJ for stoneskin, THM for swiftcast, and ARC for Ragestrikes and Qualling Strikes.

Well it all comes down to what you enjoy playing more.

For me, I started the game as a mnk. I enjoyed that job a lot and still do. After a while I started leveling brd and liked it a lot so I kept playong it and got i90 / 80 set. Then after that I felt like trying war because I love how thier AF gear looks and also because i was kind of sick of DF waiting time for brd. I've mained war since then and enjoyed playing it a lot. I have an i100/90 set for him while the brd stayed at i90 and mnk was left at i80-ish.

A couple of days ago I felt like I missed my mnk and wanted to play it again. I Switched to it. Got most of hos i90 gear and now I'm thinking of maining him again. It's what I enjoy playing the most at the moment so why wouldn't I? And might also get the animus for him and not for war after all the atma grinding.

I guess what i'm trying to say is: play what you enjoy the most and if you think some time in the future that you enjoy a different job more, then switch to it. As long as you're having fun.

Right, right now they are all in mind cause I was just a sch and i felt like i never had mana problems but I feel like I'll be a bad SMN with my points in mind and a bad SCH with my points in int.

But this seems to suggest otherwise and it was actualyl leveing THM for swiftcast that made me think about how badly I wanted to DPS

I think this might be the best advice though. I think I'm gonna focus on being the SCH/SMN, but sometimes I feel like punching stuff out, I'll just play the pugi during those times. I have just been stressing about actually making progress because I have just been doing the whole 1-30 thing so many times I wanna get something to 50 and experience the endgame a little bit.

With no current Jobs interesting me, just do what I'm doing and wait for more Jobs to be released.

RIght now I'm just winging it as a MNK since that the current Job that keeps me enterained until a Gun class or a Technology type class/job is released (must be in DPS type)

Or maybe the Gunblade class if they add that into the game due to how Gunblade is part of FF14.

I have them all at 50 and still have trouble deciding which one is my favorite. Don't feel bad if you get a job to 50 and then realize you like something else better. The good thing is that you can do everything on one character, and you'll probably end up leveling other jobs for cross class skills so if you change your mind at any point, chances are you'll already have a few levels on other jobs.

Addressing the stat allocation question, let me just say, that a SMN is probably going to miss 30 INT a lot more than a SCH will miss 30 MND, just saying. Having tried them both out and messed around with the stats quite a bit to find the right balance, I'm pretty confident in saying that your ability to heal with all your points put into INT is going to be about the exact same as your ability to heal with it in MND. You will barely notice a difference, if at all. So load up on INT for your SMN, and heal on your SCH when you need to, and don't worry about it so much. Or if you're really stressing over it, put half in INT and half in MND, but seriously, the difference in your healing ability will be negligible if you put it all into INT for SMN.
