Screen Dimming during the daytime only - PS4

When I am outdoors, during the daytime only, the screen dims at seemingly random times.

It appears to be an environmental effect such as a cloud passing over but it is not working properly if that is the intention.

The dimming is very extreme and washes out the colors and the graphics to the point that the screen looks desaturated with an exaggerated lack of contrast. It is not a subtle effect. It even effects the HUD.

This is only happening in the game and outdoors during the day.

Also, I can force the effect to happen just by standing in certain areas (mostly grassy areas) and facing the ground. When I do this the screen dims and washes out severly. It is not a reaction to large areas with bright lighting... I can face a well-lit wall indoors and nothing happens.

Update: It doesn't appear to show up in captured video. I played back the last 15 mins captured by my PS4 and the dimming did not show up during the replay as far as I could tell.

More info. It only does this in 1080P and not 720. A

lso, if I open my map or any menu, the screen brightens up. Close the menu and it goes back to dark.

It could be worth checking your TV settings / instruction manual in case this happens due to automatic brightness adjustment. This is a common(?) feature in televisions especially when using gaming mode for some reason. Playing around with different TV display settings might help.

In any case, I hope the problem will get solved soon. Sounds like a very annoying issue.
