SMN Novus and Piety?

Was just wondering since it'd be a unique stat combo unlikely to be found anywhere else.

Any usefulness to stacking your Novus with piety? I rarely want for MP but in terms of stat utility piety beats out crit and det (especially given how low those rate in terms of overall weapon damage).

I don't expect it to come out ahead, but I'm wondering what people's thoughts are.

With the mp cost reduction to Bio II there is no way you can run out of mp, unless you don't/can't use Aetherflow every time it's up and if you have to raise 2+ times during same fight.

So my opniom is: No.

Actually, if you keep Shadow Flare consistently up and weave Ruin II between off gcd abilities, you'll run out of MP in the long run without a bard.

Don't forget using Miasma II before every contagion. That helps us being Mp starved too

I don't see how Piety beats out crit/det when you have many resources for MP growth with Aetherflow, Energy Drain, MP potions, Contagion (cast less DoTs over time) and most importantly: a Bard in your group

For some reason I find myself having to Raise people more often (and surprisingly we manage to pull through and avoid a wipe) so the thought crossed my mind that with Aetherflow being a flat % regen it might scale better than Det (probably not Crit though) Essentially my stats would be something like 44 crit 31 piety. But I'm not actually sure how much extra MP that would give me...

Outside of Raises I don't really run out of MP except for fights like Titan (high movement lots of Ruin IIs), Mog/Ifrit Ex (lots to dot) etc. Hmm, so it's not super rare but it is uncommon. I actually dislike asking BRDs to sing because of the DPS decrease and the off-chances a healer bites it and needs a boost after being rezzed, but I know that is part of their toolkit.

I suppose it's not worth it. Sigh. I wish this game were more open to alternative builds. Customizable stats and everyone is running around with the same thing still >_<

The only fight I've had to ask for songs is T8 and I'm using my entire arsenal there because I need to output high DPS. I do my best to prevent having to use Aetherflow for Energy Drain and at this point my Bard knows the perfect time to play his song, though I will say in the past I've been hesitant about asking and resulted in my struggling badly for MP. Also I've never had to raise that much if at all in serious fights. My healers are awesome and my team does it's best to avoid AoEs and the like, but I always leave myself open as a back up raise for major "Oh shit" moments. I think the last time I raised as SMN was during a T9 practice run.

I could also add that Crit/det are our 2 most important stats, det to raise our DoT's damage and crit to occasionally deal higher damage (1.8k crits with my Garuda's fully buffed Enkindle makes it so worth it). No amount of Piety is going to make up for the loss of crit/det. As for how much you'd get, 1 PIE = 8 MP, you'll only get 248 which is not much at all considering the costs of some of our skills

On another note this game was built with cookie cutter in mind (considering it took from WoW which integrated cookie cutter into it's system to prevent cookie cutter builds from ignoring other specs), so hybrid builds really don't work very well at all (aside from STR DPS WAR for SCoB which can also tank at the same time but that's needed if your MT can't solo tank)

Sadly my schedule and life aren't conducive to a static, so I use PF for all of my endgame content. I can usually find a decent group, but the chance that someone will die is... hmm, higher than normal. It looks like the mp gain is pretty small/not worth it. I was also wondering because of the prices O.o I now regret selling so many of my materias pre-Novus patch thinking I would never use them xD. On the other hand, I love how furniture prices have shot through the roof with this most recent patch. I've made almost ~1mil gil selling furniture that would have netted maybe 100K total before.
