    All kinds of questions..

    Hi all,

New player here looking for help and advice. Basically I was hoping someone could point me towards a game guide that would provide me with a better understanding of how the multiple class and job system works.

I started out as a Marauder hoping to eventually become a Paladin, but now reading a few things I've found it looks like Gladiator was probably the way to go.

Is there a guide I can refer to that will help me better understand what Classes feed into what Jobs?

Also wanted to get an idea about the crafting in this game. Are crafted items on par with looted or reward items? Are certain crafters more sought after than others?

    Any assistance is appreciated.

Paladin requires Conjurer lvl15 and Gladiator lvl30. Paladin shares some cross class skills with Marauder so it's only gonna help you down the road. As far as crafting goes, I'd suggest Goldsmith. It's a great way to make money and it's very easy to lvl. If you're super serious about crafting you should level ALL crafting classes to at least lvl 15 for the cross class skills.

So am I able to switch to Gladiator or Conjurer at this point? And if so, how do I do this? In my starting area I didn't see any kind of a Gladiator guild hall.

    thanks

Continue with the main storyline quests in Limsa Lominsa, and around lvl 15 or so you'll eventually unlock your own airship pass. This will allow you to access the Gladiator's guild in Ul'dah and the Conjurer's guild in Gridania.

As far as crafting goes, you should level all crafts evenly due to the fair amount they can help each other, and sharing the same gear. As far as its usefullness, up until endgame crafted pieces are on par with looted/rewarded items (if you make them high-quality). At endgame you can't make the BEST gear overall, but can make pretty much second best, with some pieces being situationally better than pieces with better item levels.

crafted accessories are generally better than the equivalent raiding accessories (i70 HQ crafted vs i90 raid, future i90 HQ crafted vs i110 raid) because they add a lot of stats you cant get with raiding gear.

Not that much of a difference though

That's what I meant, kinda. Instead of getting the highest lrvel, you go 2nd highest with materia to cover slots where you can't get certain desired traita like votality, accuracy, or crit.

The most desired crafters will have all the crafting classes leveled. It gives them access to the most useful cross-class skill combinations, and increases the chance of success with a hq craft. What you specialize in first however depends on your needs.

Crafters related to armor (weaver, armorer, leatherworker) have been seeing a lot of custom since the glamour feature came out. The ability to craft vanity items has obvious appeal. I expect popularity for these classes to jump when 2.3 hits us in 2 weeks.

Goldsmiths and Culinarians see consistent work, especially if you are looking to contribute to a more hardcore FC. Culinarians provide much-needed food buffs for raids while goldsmiths are very useful to craft accessories for spiritbinding.

Gamerscape is a great resource for information.

You can change to any class at any time by switching your weapon ( but I think you have to get the initial quest from the guild first). When you first start, just start doing all of the quests available to you. They will pretty much walk you through the basics of the game and point you in the right direction of where to go next. I had the same problem when I first started a few months back, not knowing how to progress, get to new areas, get chocobo, etc. but soon realized that most of the initial quests are just teaching you all about the game. After you get to 30 or so doing quests you will have a much better grasp on the game.

To get gladiator you will need to be able to get to a different city. I would suggest to just keep going with Maurader until you can take the airship to the other cities since eventually you will want to lvl Maurader eventually anyways.

You have 3 options available for your class change now.

    1) You will need to acquire and finish two quests to unlock the class change ability and to travel outside La Noscea.

You will need to reach Lv.14 and complete the main scenario quests until you receive, Lominsan Envoy. This quest will unlock airship travel and introduce you to the other two starting towns. You will want to stop at Ul'dah and Gridania both to visit the Gladiator and Conjurer guild halls and get the class quests.

If you haven't done so, you will also want to complete these 3 class quests related to your marauder, Lv.1, Lv.5, and Lv.10. When you finish the Lv.10 quest, you will be able to talk to any other class guilds and add them to your available classes. These quests also provide you with up-to-date equipment and xp.

    2) You are still Lv.4, so it isn't too much trouble yet to simply restart with the Gladiator class in Ul'dah. That is also an option. Just know that you will eventually want to level Marauder up as well. How much your level it depends on you, but most stop at either Lv.8 or Lv.22 because of specific cross-class skills.

    3) A last option is to find someone who can buy you a weathered shortsword from Zanthael in Limsa Lominsa. I'm not certain if they patched it or not, but these vendors exist in case you accidentally delete one of the Lv.1 weapons and need to re-equip it to level your class. I know however that you can't buy them until you unlock the class, although they can be traded and players used them to acquire classes back in September when they didn't have airship travel (I'm looking at all the legacy players starting in Ul'dah/Gridania who bought Lv.1 arcanist books so they could use the story quests to level the class). Just be aware it costs 63gil to buy from the npc and avoid overpaying (although a tip is always appreciated).

You will still want to complete the Lv.10 class quest as marauder if you go this route as it unlocks the other class quests, and gives you a feature that lets you save equipment sets to quickly change classes. Having to manually slot in 11 weapons/armor/accessories every time you switch classes will just kill your soul. Blacksmith is also a crafting class that will be useful as you will need to craft or buy your weapon upgrades from the marketplace/npc until Lv.15 using this trick.
