I can't put my finger on it but there is something in it that makes me say it's not a screenshot. Something in the textures maybe, they're flat in that picture and it makes it more cartoony and wowish than what the actual game looks like.

Personally ( and maybe I just don't have artist eyes) but that area in the picture looks the same as it does in game. That's just me though.

Edit: Even if it is concept art, they sure did put it out their that carby will be a summoners pet now.

It's a downscaled, compressed, and slightly touched up screenshot, but it's still a screenshot. The blotchy low-res gress texture makes that easily apparent.

That being said, it isn't indicative of anything. The carby is a bit more iconic than the lame primal egis, so it's possible (probable?) that they just used GM powers when taking the screenshot to summon a carby instead, since it is a promotional image after all.

That Summoner is using a relic, though, which you can't get without completing your Class/Job quests.

This pretty much nails it. Remember that those screenshots come from Development Servers, meaning that Character was likely created, and then with a Console Command, given a full set of SMN gear and not any Job Quests for the purposes of providing a nice screenshot.

We cannot on the Live Server, but with a Console Command ... It's possible for him to equip any piece of SMN gear he wanted to.

While logic is with you on this one, my heart goes out that I'll be able to use Carbuncle on my SMN. =D I mean, it just seems silly to make a screenshot with a SMN and Carbuncle if we weren't going to be able to summon him. I do remember a thread before where the Devs said they weren't going to allow us to summon Carbuncle, they never said we couldn't glamour over Garuda...
