1 - Doing a daily expert roulette (+daily hunts though we still don't know how this will work).

2 - Spending gil on materia.

2.3 will make even alexandrites more available and accessible, which in turn could potentially and understandably encourage those that already have a Novus to go for another one (maybe at a slower pace) since you'll be stacking alexandrites with the daily roulette anyway and it will NOT cost you anything other than doing the silly maps.
The problem here is that there is a massive brick wall called Atma quest + 9 books which discourages even the slightest thought to go for a second Novus despite having the possibility to stack alexandrites and gather some materia with very little effort after your first novus.
I'd focus on the atma if you're going to single out something that really sucks.

I'll get myth as part of things I normally do. So *if* I was at that part of the quest, I could just shell out for a book every time I happen to have enough, and the books themselves aren't so bad so it's not a big deal to do those.

The atma's, on the other hand, are nothing i'll ever get as part of my normal routine. So I have to go out of my way to get them. And going out of my way to get them is awful, and time consuming. So I doubt i'll get past that unless I just do a few fates on my alt for giggles (after getting the novus on my main) and happen to get insanely lucky.
