Lets get some sense up in this bitch from someone who isn't ignorant on the subject:

I know a lot of people here don't 3D model (for a living, never mind a hobby), but a six month time frame for a set of armour seems right. You have to:

Make a basemesh (could take a day, could take 2 weeks - gotta make sure everything is clean and the polygons are organised a certain way) Sculpt (depends on level of detail, a good sculpt will never be quick though. Could take 1-2 weeks minimum) Retopologize (reorganize the mesh so you can lower the poly count while keep detail/density in areas that people look at and the areas that move a lot, could take a couple of days) UV Map (preparation for textures, depends on quality, but should take at least a couple of days for good work) Bake high poly to low poly (shouldn't take more than a day or two, depends on clean up and computer power) Texture (easier to texture when you have normal maps, but it still should take at least a week for all maps at a good quality)

That's just making the armour, then you gotta make sure it fits the character's movements and deforms correctly.

Binding and skinning (depends on complexity, but could take a few days).

Note: The above is for 1 character race/sex, not all.

If one guy is making a set of armour for all races, 6 months is fucking superman speed lol. I dunno how they organise their teams though, I doubt it's 1 person going through the whole pipeline at a company so large. My times are generous, during crunch you have to pack those days into hours. And it doesn't account for artistic standard, it just takes into consideration pure technical skill. The artsy side no doubt adds more time, including concepts and so on.
I bet you didn't even know what half of that crap meant.

People are bashing MP changes before again playing for a few days to see how they can adapt to the new playstyle.

I think it's more of a problem of people "Rushing" their assumptions on how these change the game, many things are totally game-changers but people are jumping the gun to bash the new systems before trying to work inside of them. It's a case of "It's not as easy as it was before" before people even know whats going on.

Mages are mad because they can't solo NM's anymore, Archers are made becasue they don't outclass everyone anymore, people are mad because leveling has slown down a bit, people are mad because things changed.

    People don't like change
Don't take people for stupid my friend. I have been here since beta and even before playing , just reading that patch note which was released at the last minute , I knew they had fucked the game for 70% of peoPle. And by playing it , I just confirmed that. Took me a year to get where I got, soloing/ duoing (my skills lvls are open for anyone to check. The pace was ok. You could play and have a life. Now, you can't play what they first announced, and we got to a point where anything meaningful needs a party. That's not what we signed for when we bought the game. These changes are ridiculous and having to use mp pots all the fucking time isn't new. Lots of other mmo's have the same stuff and it's old and annoying. The do it all of this game, was what sold it to me. Now, you can't do that. It feels like a chore now, rather than fun. Like some sort of cheating. Whoever had time to lvl all classes to 50's got the upperhand now, and whoever is starting, get fucked. I thought that ffxiv would be different, guess I was wrong.

Well I sure as hell didn't know what most of that was, but now I do! Life is very educational!

...Of course I wasn't one of the ones bitching about the time it took in the first place.

There's few bugs to be found, everything is functional.

Some features are meant to be complemented by later patch additions.

Nothing in this patch is rushed. Everything works according to the big picture.

The only flaw is that the patch didn't come any sooner.
Agreed. 1.18 was not rushed. Some things may need tweaking, but that's to be expected.

It feels rushed because it was. I guess they haven't been siphoning quite enough development dollars from XI.

Because you people make the same mistake every time again.
    YOU EXPECT TOO MUCH.

You'll never be happy with this game, because the only reason for you to play this game is to find something you don't like.

I really don't like Square Enix, but I liked FFXIV from the begin. And I love the most changes in 1.18. The only thing I don't like is the reward after completing a quest/behest/leve and getting less SP by killing mobs in it.

It makes a lot of fun and it's playable. The sound is great, graphics are great, atmosphere is great, story is okay so far and the gameplay is okay. You people didn't throw a coin for all the changes made in this time so far.

No, I really wanted to love this game. I was a believer. I just look at the decisions being made and the sloppiness of it all, and I can't help but be unhappy about it.

I care about this game, ok? Just cause I see it failing and say so, doesn't mean I don't like it. It is like parents that tell their children that everything they do is perfect etc etc.

The child grows up and then has to go out in the real world (for the game this will be PS3 launch)

and then it finds out the hard way that it has a long long way to go before even being passable, let alone perfect.

I am being critical (as are most of the folks who are being critical) because it is better for us to be critical now, before "make or break time" then to pretend everything is perfect and then have PS3 launch flop.

You have to understand, this game needs to be appealing to a wide playerbase to succeed. People who like this game no matter how crappy and unbalanced it is are a tiny tiny minority.

You may hate people like me who are trying to point out the game's flaws, but we are integral to the improvement of this game and to its ultimate success.

And as a paying XI customer - I am not only a fan of SE, I am helping pay for the development of this game. So, yeah. Please don't accuse me, or anyone else raising concerns, of playing only to hate.

And what's sad is they worked on this patch for over 3 months.
