New player question: elitist?

you just need to be discerning enough to recognize when someone is actually better than you or when someone has delusions of grandeur

One reason I havent touched tank and probably never will is because of all the hate towards them if you mess up. I was talking to one of my fc members and they were telling me about how bad they get treated by the lvl 50's in his dungeon runs as he is a low lvl tank, It's crazy. One run he even got cursed out and harrassed by a pc player calling him ps4 trash. As a fellow ps4 player I cringe for the day I get treated like that by a pc player. Now not all are like that. I have encountered very helpful pc players helping out new tanks and myself when I was starting my healer. Sorry if this was a bit off topic lol

I hope your friend reported that player for the harassment. The more jerks like that that SE can get rid of, the better it'll be for the rest of the playerbase.

But as you yourself have seen, there are a lot of nice and helpful players as well. And luckily, they far outnumber the obnoxious jerks. People discuss horror stories of bad players they've encountered, but we shouldn't take that as evidence of such cases being common.

He didn't get a chance to. Guess he didn't know how to at the time. If I ever encounter anyone like that I will be reporting them for sure.

Only thing I encountered so far is just randoms that dont listen to the rest of the group and run off to die over and over

Generally speaking though, the earlier levels are fine. But endgame is a little saturated with nasties. I dont really want to use the word "toxic" again that has been circulating since the start of the game, but the endgame community can generally be seen as "toxic" yeah.

Worst I've run into at earlier levels are level synced dps that like to push the limits of what I can do as a (admittedly) brand new tank. It's a little stressful in the moment, but 3/3 comms so I must've done ok. There's a bit of rage thrown at my high level heal game, but I've had bad days and good days, and 'typically' people are pretty understanding. It should be noted that I generally don't play with folks who obnoxiously demand speed runs... While I'm not opposed to speed runs perse, demanding ppl are their own red flag, IMO.

I ran into a group tonight in garauda ex...who demanded that i leave because of 2 accessories. We never even played ...I made them wait the 5 minutes before the system let them kick me. I was playing with my i89 bard.

I'm a lv50 war i get flak for everything from the "elitists" but i really dont care. There was a garuda run i tried several times with the same healer who kept giving me crap, I pretty much gave it back to him after he got mad at the whole party (3rd party wipe) about how no one does their jobs right with "if you healed me instead of touching yourself we wouldnt have this problem" everyone else laughed he rage quit. Yes its annoying we all have to deal with these uptight gamers that ruin things but dont let them get to you. Let them cry and whine and just play how you want, same as if youre pc or console who cares.

I also still have yet to do end game with ultima and such and honestly dont want to due to the "hard core gamers". I just like to have fun and this is the first final fantasy i actually enjoyed since 3 on snes (yes i know its 6 but snes it was 3 for NA).

Its such a waste that others ruin something that is fun and make it a chore.
