It's been really hard to get new friends to start the game.

Balmung is pretty much one of the only servers on the game that is perpetually locked to new player creation. As I have been playing on it since the re-release I have made many friends within the server community preventing me from really feeling like a transfer would be worth it. However, trying to lure new players from among my friends is virtually impossible.

Time of day seems to affect whether you can create new characters/transfer. I just transferred to Balmung a few days ago, and did so in the dead of night. Had no problems. If you can convince them to do it, I would get your friends to create their character/transfer at some crazy hour. They don't have to start playing at that time, just take 5 minutes and make it.

Transferring adds to the cost of adoption though which is a really annoying thing to bring up in conversation.

I have an alt character on Balmung, and I was able to make it in the early morning (EST) around 9am/10am. Have any friends try to do that because I've found that early morning is when it's easiest to do character creation on a high pop server.
