They probably use a weaponskill that is based on their legs. I'm assuming you're incapping legs with Skewer II right? I know that when I incap Amalj'aa with Seismic Shock (also leg incap), their Decimate WS hits me for 0. When I incap their head, their overall att and acc goes down.

Incaps are basically for NMs because by the time you incap a regular mob, it's almost dead, and you can't even tell exactly what skill/trait/stat has been incapacitated. If you want to really see the effects of your incaps, fight something easy, incap it real quick, and then turn around and let it hit you. Monitor their attack and WS damage. Notice whether they are using specific WS or not. Another thing is that an incap might just mean the mob drops a rare item, obtainable only by incap. I'm not sure if there's any extended literature out there about incap data.

I have no idea how incaps work or how to do them. Anyone care to give a quick rundown and a few examples?

IN short, certain weapon skills can be used to target certain locations on Mobs to incap them. This has a couple of effects; 1.) Attacks they use, defensive or offensive buffs the gain, etc., are either removed completely or nerferd 2.) cause an increased likelihood of getting a drop, or makes a drop possible that wasn't possible with incap.

Examples: Fighting Old Six Arms, incap the shell, and it no longer gets its defense boost hiding ability that crabs have. Also, fighting great buffalo, Lancer can use Twisting Vice while standing on the mobs left side to incapacitate its left horn, making it so that the horn will drop; same can be done on Elder mosshorn to get mossy horn to drop.

Each class has different weapon skills that incap different locations, and require you to stand in different places to perform them. Lodestone has the information on which skills where. I do not know if incap works if you are using the skills cross-class.

Yeah incaps just "increase the likelihood of drops", some people don't believe in them, i'm a die hard believer, if you look up nps on eorzeapedia or zam's wiki, i forgot which has it, they have most of the incaps for nms. Normal mobs not sure.

Some items need to be incapacited to allow them to drop. Crab shells, skull eyepatches, and a few other examples.

Yeah i know I went and did these things with people and they said "just because you did incap and it drops doesn't mean anything we could of got it to drop without incap" which is true, it just takes a longer time. So everyone should be incapping always, and for the nms with 30 gear and such, i believe different incaps effect different gear pieces also. Not telling the person I quoted, just info for anyone who doesn't know, its just a belief going around.
