Minions and chocobo's fighting with you.

Hi, So I am a lvl 29 lancer, I already have a chocobo and a couple of minions at my disposal but when I am in a fate I see other players chocobo`s fighting along side them. Do I have to get to a certain level to unlock this or should I be doing something to make my company bird fight for me?? Thanks in advance for any help with this.

That's a quest available from level 30 that you have to do to allow you to summon your Grand Company chocobo as a 'Companion' in battle - the quest is called 'My Feisty Little Chocobo' and is given by Ducotte in Camp Tranquil in the South Shroud. Once you've done this quest you have to purchase bunches of gyshal greens and use them by mapping them to your hotbar to call your chocobo out in the field.

You're limited to only being able to call your chocobo as a companion while in 'outside' areas - you cannot use them in an instanced area like a dungeon or while doing a solo duty (like a story fight) - you're forced to withdraw them before you can enter.

As for minions, they're just for show and have no bearing on gameplay at all. They're just a fun little thing to have next to you.

I was wondering the same thing too, as I got my Chocobo yesterday. Looking for this info, I got this:

    http://ffxiv.gamerescape.com/wiki/Chocobo%20Companion

It seems that there's a mission to be completed in order of having your Chocobo fighting along your side.

A chocobo in healer stance will make you able to take on monsters several levels higher than you, I swap mine back and forth between Healer and Free in combat and have solo'd quests and leves at +3 /+4 to the recommended level.

I do wish we could take our retainers with us tho

But some of them have what are essentially minion-emotes of reacting to the fight. It's fun to see my cute little Coeurl Kitten puff up his tail and swipe his claws towards some big mob I'm fighting. lol
But yeah, that's still just a purely cosmetic thing.

Hmm... About it, I came up with a doubt... There're three classes that a Chococo could be: Defender, Attacker and Healer. How is this choosen? And can it be changed during the game, just as we change class?

They are more stances than classes. When you put a point into one of the skill trees you get the associated stance and they will focus on using skills from that tree. For example, putting a point into the Healer tree lets you get the Healer stance and the chocobo will focus on healing if you pick that stance. If you use Free stance the chocobo will use all his skills when appropriate so it's useful if you split between the different trees.

You get special armor for your chocobo if you focus only on one skill tree (you have to get rank 10 for it and rank 10 requires all points in one tree) but 2.3 will be adding ways to train your chocobo past the cap so we'll see how many more points we are allowed.

2.3 is also adding an item to refund our chocobo points so don't worry too much about what skills you pick for him.

A follow up question if I may?

If my understanding is correct during a fate, the amount of damage you do relates to the amount of XP you get once the FATE is complete? If so and my chocobo is fighting alongside me does the XP go to me or my chocobo? Sorry if this is a daft question but I just reach lvl 30 last night and just want to understand how this will work.

Fates have 3 medals : Bronze, Silver and Gold each one has a range set reward bonus in XP, Seals and Gil, gold reward is fixed for your level. So once you done enough to get gold medal no matter how much more damage you do.

It is not really damage, it is more enmity, a tank could spam flash for exemple, not doing a single damage and get gold medal.

Note that some fates are collecting types, so returning items needed will give you rewards more than fighting any enemy there.

About your chocobo xp, he gets a part of the xp the mobs you kill gives you. Example you alone get 300 xp from a monster, with chocobo out the same monster gives you 200xp, chocobo gets 100xp (unless this was changed)
But for the final reward of a fate, you alone get the xp, like if you return a quest, if you have your chocobo summoned he gets nothing.
