Hullbreaker Isle: well it's not Ultros

I seem to be the only one whose actually excited over the release of Hullbreaker Isle (sick to death of spamming brayflox) the trailer showcased a lush environment and to top it off a final boss that is not only large but requires multiples areas to fight.

The only thing that annoys me is Yoshi specifically stating that this was a Kraken we were familiar with, and while it looks stunning, it is just a standard giant sea horror (to us of FFXI that name brings fond memories of pleasant annihilation. I guess part of me was expecting Ultros, but hey win some lose some

Far from standard, this is based on the FFIVJP Octomammoth, which was indeed considered a Kraken.

Holding the ten(?!)-tacles at bay while fighting the head ought to be pretty fun ^^

The biggest problem with this being Octomammoth/Octokraken is that it doesn't have any of the skin patterns or the hideously gigantic, toothy maw! That is not Octokraken*. It's just a generic giant squid.



*I say Octokraken because Octomammoth is already a fish item in-game.

Maybe it's all a clever ruse like the eft boss in Brayflox normal, and when you do enough damage to Octomammoth it'll get killed by cannonball fire. Ultros will show up on a pirate ship wearing a captain's hat, then jump down and start fighting you.

I think Yoshi meant that kraken is a familiar boss, and here we have a kraken.

I don't think ultros and kraken are the same thing, and ultros has never been hinted at.

Has no one considered that the snippet you were shown is NOT the entire boss fight? All we see is some tentacles and the top of its head/eyes. Im keen to see the whole fight.

actually there is a pic of the entire creature on the 2.3 preview page on the dungeons section. here take a look:



And technically this creature, though being a Cephalopod, is NOT an Octo-anything, as it has TEN tentacles, not eight. This creature is actually more likely a type of Squid, and falls in the category of Decapod.

Perhaps my hopes are too high, but if the octopus/cephalopod can speak, could it still be what we expected at first, which is to say Ultros ?
