If he is working towards his luminary, then he would need to produce the items, not just gather the materials. Just because it doesn't make sense to you doesn't mean others don't have a reason for doing it, the world can be much bigger than that box people are always thinking inside of.
I think that what many people fail to realize, is that you can obtain pretty much everything in this game at almost 0 cost, you just have to level the gathering class and go out and get it. (or run some dungeons and buy the mats with myth/sol)
It's amazing how much some of the low level gear sells for, when you can just spend a few hours... level the class up yourself (for free) and then make the same item for 1/20th the cost.
As a crafter it drives me crazy when people drive down prices without any sort of logic behind it - but I guess I'm curious how low were the prices? Usually if I see something insanely low, I'll buy it up for myself and either resell it or keep it for later. I think this practice will stop with de-synth, since I can just part everything and re-sell, theres no sense in doing this anymore. (I wonder if thats a intended consequence of de synth?)He's basically selling insane amount of 2stars HQ food to the point you're losing money if you're buying mats off AH, or you'd rather sell the raw materials if you're gathering them forcing me and some fellow culinarians i know to buy his whole stock in order to avoid a crash of the market.
We attempted to talk with him, however he only connect to craft in "busy", preventing any tells and/or any other form of communication, also ignoring whatever we say in the /say chat.

From 4k-5k a piece all the way down to 1.5k a piece (which is less then NQ). Yes, i do buy his food to resell them, but it just seems like he has an infinite supply. Again, i'm fine with undercutting, but this is just plain ridiculous. As a crafter it drives me crazy when people drive down prices without any sort of logic behind it - but I guess I'm curious how low were the prices? Meh...I wouldn't get too worked up about it. It happens. When prices drop like that, I just stop making that and find something else to craft. Then I'll just keep an eye on it for when the price rises back up.
I also wouldn't /tell the person - not sure that's gonna accomplish anything and the person can technically list whatever they want at whatever price. Not sure this constitutes harassment either.
Just find something else to craft thats profitable - either that or wait until de-synth and then part everything.

Incorrect. You cannot lose anything if you are not selling in this game.
IRL, in most countries, price fixing is illegal or prohibited. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Price_fixing
Most materials can essentially be farmed at minimal costs. You're only out the time involved & equipment repaid costs. You don't have to buy them from the MB.
A lot of people if they have the money would just rather buy the item because it's far quicker which suits me used to make a killing in wow off copper ore/bars.I think that what many people fail to realize, is that you can obtain pretty much everything in this game at almost 0 cost, you just have to level the gathering class and go out and get it. P.S. This is not my main...
LIES. I tried to buy Finger Sandwiches last night and the only ones available were HQ for 5k each DXThe problem with FFXIV's economy is that everyone seems to think that there is no room for anyone else in a market. So they force the prices down to nothing to bully people out, then pull the prices back up while buying all the cheaper stuff others listed for super low. So they profit on their stuff and other other people's stuff. Funnily enough, they tried that with some foods on Balmung and the prices never rose back up. Didn't bother me any because I gather all my own mats, so I have 100% profit.
