Sad to say encountered a similar player, low level roulette, ifrit popped, said in party ah sweet nice and fast one.
The tank didn't want to tank well outright refused to tank in fact, they just ran up to ifrit, hit him once then ran off.
We had to wait to be able to kick which in that time he had got us killed several times due to keep pulling ifrit onto healer.
When we eventually managed to kick him, we thought you know what let's just try get this done,
So the monk tanked (bloody amazing job too) healer spam healed, and I dpsd
The tank wasn't even new as they had zenith wep/shield and the 100 armor set.

The only people who mentioned "parser" are those who QQ and rage calling people "elitest" and crying about discrimination if they play poorly.

I don't see what is elitest about trying to help someone to improve their performance, as long as it's done respectfully and politely.

You do not need a Parser to see if someone is performing exceptionally bad, nor do you need to play BLM to know that a BLM only using ice spells is a fail BLM.

I think it's very natural to get defensive if approached the wrong way. Asking "Why aren't you doing <this>" or "What are you doing?" are both negative ways to go about it, even if unintended.

If ever I feel the need to give unsolicited advice (which is incredibly rare - twice to date), I'll start it with a "Do you mind if I give a couple of tips? ^^; ". Makes people slightly more receptive vs. being on the defensive right off the bat. Whether or not they choose to listen, that's on them. I'll say my quick peace, and they can do with it what they will.

shoulda just kicked him and moved on if everyone in the party agrees that he's being uncooperative and a hindrance to the group.

It's usually hard to figure out whose in the wrong in these situations.

If someone in the group say "I notice you're using -blah- when you should be using -blah-", the person playing incorrectly would be in the wrong for going "To hell with you! I play like I want!"

On the other hand, if someone in the group says "Omg you're an idiot. Wtf are doing casting -blah-. Are you retarded?", then pretty much anyone would get defensive.

It's all in how you approach it.

Instantly vote kick, report for harassment and move on. Obvious troll and perhaps a bad player. Cut your losses when you give advice once. If they don't take it, quit wasting your time and energy.

We did kick him for harassment, I still consider reporting him, but if they look into the chatlog (if they can) the discussion between the "teacher" and the "unwilling student" got quite unpretty towards the end.
And I don't want the "teacher" getting punished for losing his temper after 35 minutes of this insanity.

Gormogon, I really wish you get this what I got.
One complete new to the 50ies world DD
Another DD (same class) that performs so poorly, that even if you never played the class, you know something is going on, even poorer than the other
The "teacher" that calmly tries to tell the DDs how to improve. Not impolite, not polite, neutral. Not in condescending manner.
And you in the middle of it, wondering why the dungeon you even rushed in REALLY bad gear takes that long.

Would you really say "ah whatever, I am not paying his subscription, so he can play like he wants, even so it diminishes my fun?" or would you be asking friendly what is going on.

There's no clear black and white circumstance. Approaching the subject with the smallest sliver of information only results in the absolute worst and polarized opinions, which happens in the majority of these forum discussions, unfortunately.

Generally speaking, I am of the opinion that when it comes to a teamwork activity, you behave as a member of a team. If you are acting purposefully contrary to what is needed of you as a team member, then it is best for the team that you are not a part of it.

However, part of the journey of finding enjoyment in a team-based game like MMORPGs, is finding a team that often agrees with your playstyle and sensibilities. And, sadly, FFXIV really does lack a bit in the team building department. (Though the players seem to do their best with what they have.)

If you find yourself contrary to the games core mechanics, than perhaps the game itself might not be for you. Currently, FFXIV isn't exactly forgiving as far as playstyle flexibility. Hopefully this will be a little less imposing in the future as more Classes begin to get their secondary jobs. But eccentric or unconventional playstyles will most often be looked upon poorly, regardless of the intentions, for good or ill, of the players critiquing it.

In the end, playing the way you want shouldn't be done at the expense of others. It's about putting forth an offering of goodwill to your fellow adventurers. Be courteous, and part of that is be responsible for the role you accepted when stepping into a random group. But being courteous is a responsibility for all players, not just the one who may seem to be lagging behind in performance. Too often we forget these things in the heat of the moment.

If something seems wrong, be sure it's not with anger you communicate with, but with concern. Otherwise you are purposefully spoiling the pastime of someone else, the very same grievance you're letting yourself become angry over.

I don't use parsers for this game. But I can watch another Black Mage, or I can watch a Dragoon, and be able to discern their performance. Though I am currently leveling Summoner, I am learning from observing the performance of other Summoners in the group.

I LIKE the fence. I get 2 groups to laugh at then.
