watch the party list.
blm(full mp): bliz 3, bliz 3, fire 3, fire 2(single mob) til oom, transpose, tic, flare. pretty easy to see all that going on.
All that only works in extremely low level content. You get a tank that can't tank in upper level to endgame content = wipe, healer or tank dc's = wipe, unless the dps is overgeared to where they're carrying the party they also can't pick up the slack on dps checks like nails, hearts, etc. Everything you just said only counts in low level content.1.) I use DF a lot. Sometimes I get queued up with bad players of whatever role or people that have or are met with connection issues. Yet it doesn't bother me. I take those situations and weaknesses into consideration and try to accommodate as best as possible. Lower my DPS if it's just a gear issue or try and/or burst as much as possible hoping the mob dies within the next few spells after getting aggro. Overall I'd rather keep trying to get it done than blame everyone in the group for their errors because it's unhealthy especially when it doesn't guarantee to fix the issue and can make it worse.
So
If tank disconnects and I know I'm about to pull aggro, as long as it isn't range I'll kite, spam scathe, juke with aetherial manipulation, use swiftcast if I have it for blizzard 1 and so on. If it is range then it's gonna be more tricky since juking doesn't do much and line of sight doesn't work, so mitigation and offhealing are my only alternatives and the best approach if there's another dps up.
Yet I don't expect the healer to optimize for the situation.
If healer disconnects or dies I know I can either keep DPSing and try and trust the tank to mitigate damage on his own by using his abilities, healing himself, and kiting or take into consideration that I'll have to off-heal.
Yet I don't expect the tank to optimize for the situation. What I posted about that situation is simply a judgement call I'll have to make.
If dps is bad, disconnects, or dies I'm confident on my dps to pull that weight so on that note I'm not worried and if they can be slept I would also have that option.
2.) For the most part, 1 good DPS can make up for another especially if he's ilvl 90 or higher ilvl'd in dungeons. It does make the run better if everyone's good but that luxury isn't a guarantee.
3.) I developed my BLM's rotation on my own since the concept behind rotation and min/max are not new to me, i grew up with that concept. I also spread the word behind double and triple flare before they were even a norm because they became more and more needed. Was I the original person behind them? I don't think so but the design was there and I wasn't abusing it either. To me those things are elementary. I did theorycrafting before, which personally I found it to be a waste of my time. Yet knowing a perfect rotation and knowing a min/max are rather pointless on their own. You have to be able to implement both and accommodate for inconsistencies on the fly based on any given situation. So in other words to gauge someones skill relies more than just parsing numbers because those numbers wont prepare you for inconsistencies and situational awareness.

I've been there. If you really want to rage check people in DF. The sheer number of level 50s wearing incorrect gear is aneurysm inducing and you can't even see how they spent their stat points.
People seem to be getting to 50 without learning much of anything with disturbing regularity. A large part of it is how the game is designed to encourage experts to prop up newbies through Atma/Roulette design.
We learn through failure. When people much better than you keep you from failing, you miss out on an opportunity to get better. The training wheels should not be coming off for the first time so late in the game. I think that's why Turn 5 and Titan EX are a wall right now, FFXIV does a really poor job of getting you ready to be good with how it's currently designed.
It is a rather welcome thing that so many want to help others in DF, etc in this game. Unfortunately some people simply don't want the help.
Not really sure how this thread ballooned like it did- bad players are bad, and most people should agree that there is a very basic way to play the game. There is in fact a very basic rotation for each job that will allow you to bumble through dungeons. We are not talking optimal, we are talking, like "halone combo and then flash". The game was designed specifically with these basic rotations in mind. Again I am not talking about anything complex here.
If a player can't do that, and they will not listen to advice, then there really is no helping.
Put bluntly, you don't go into a fist fight expecting slaps. Of course no one expects pro k1 fighting techniques either.
I saw a bard recently, using 9/10 times windbite, nothing else...
due to his low dps, healer was raging to quit, but stayed with me - props for that...
so I did what i had to do in WP, slowed down, ... afte second boss, i provoked the Tonberrys... seeing the Bard running up to the treasure...
*facepalm*
Never a mind was changed on an internet board, no matter how good your arguments are...
These threads come up every week. I'm glad to see that the majority of the (forum) community thinks an MMO should be played together and that the "I play how I want" is rather childish.
I just wanted to point out if you guys don't know Gormogon yet: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...n-t-understand...
I Think you didn't understand what i was talking about and u gone on a rant because i don't think it someones job to keep me alive. Don't go around fing thinking like you know what i expect from people playing this game. Cause one you don't know me.You think its someone's job to keep you from dying over and over and over again? Honestly, do you expect to get to the end of a dungeon in 90 minutes when you enter a roulette? I mean that's extreme elitist behavior. People should be able to enjoy the game as they see fit; if you manage to get Soldiery or are able to kill the last boss that's just a bonus. The experience should be its own reward.
And two i don't think like that at all.
Fully understand what someone is talking about and get ur fact right before you start calling people ELITIST. You shouldn't even call someone that its bloody offensive as it is in here.

Every person that says this has to be completely unaware of all the tools available to them; Party list, enmity meter, focus target. You can see every spell cast by a character, it's in their cast bar. You can see how much hate someone is generate, and what spells they are using. it's in the party list. With this information you can very easily tell when mages aren't doing their jobs. Physical dps have a bit more transparency but you can look at a drgs skills and see if they are keeping them up, or a mob to see if a monk is keeping up dragon kick and it's dot's. You can also watch a physical dps rotate around the mob or not. A third party program is not required at all to see when someone is doing bad. read the personal story it should shed some lite for you.
personal story of similar to op
you have a cast bar. every person in the party can see exactly what your rotation is. I was in Brayflox on my blm and had another it took us a little long to kill the first trash which I thought was weird then next thing I know boss isn't even at half hp and we are up to 4 bombs. at that point I pay attention to the other blms rotation for 2 cycles. while casting all my spells and dodging. It was fire 3 -> fire 3 -> bliz3 -> bliz 3- Thunder 3. When I asked why they are not even casting fire 1 or even casting the one mroe fire 3 they could they replied with don;t even start I play how I want.... well you aren't playing in fact you are harassing the party. This resulted in his dps being so low we almost enraged wiped to the first boss of brayflox HM. if it wasn't for me playing the job right or if they would have had a lesser geared player as the 4th they would have failed the dungeon. There is a difference btwn playing how you want, and being worthless. his dps was so low that even without a dps meter I can tell you it was lower then the warriors. we carried him through the dungeon, gave him free myth and soldier, and he did nothing to earn it at all, and you are calling this ok?
