    Fishing, Profitable?

So i'm 44, probably going to hit 50 this week in fishing.
What is profitable? I'm not asking for a step by step and others to do the work for me, telling me exactly how to do it. I'm just asking what is actually profitable? Looking through the AH, i saw that several of the high level fish really aren't selling well. Corals seem to be alright, maps, Maiden Carp. Anything else? Is this really just a waste of time to get those double star fish?

Most fish are not used for anything outside of just being fish, even more so for large fish. Look for fish that are used for crafting.

Like Lollie said, you can make a profit by fishing for craftable fish, but it can be a slow profit while you wait for things to sell. If you enjoy fishing for the completionist aspects, it can still be fun. These days I really only switch to fisher to pull up my timeworn maps near Revenant's Toll.

Levelling fishing is great if you have culinarian/alchemist and a retainer that a fisher as well. The retainer can pull up the more frustrating low-level ingredient fish for you while you do other stuff like fish for worthless 2* fish trophies and sovereigns.

Anchovies USED to be profitable, until they decided to add them to vendor lists..... other than that, most any crafting fish, look for ones that re ingredients in high level cooking recipes.

If you have a Gourmet, check his recepies to find out which use fish and then check the market board for these specific fish. All other fish = useless crap.

Culinarian and Alchemist use several different kinds of Fish, look through the recipes, and especially focus on some of the endgame food. there are several items that can pull in some pretty good walking around money as long as you dont flood the market.

As someone else mentioned in here, Desynthesis is coming soon too, I am hoping that you can get crystals doing this as well as other actually useful stuff.

"Profitable"? If you use a lure, then there is no expense involved, just revenue from selling on MB or to vendors.
So, yes there's no question that it's profitable.

However, if your goal is to maximize your profit, there are probably other things you could do that would net you more gil/hour
