I went into Garuda EX with a friend and his FC, and although they had all done the fight before... I had not. I'd never even watched a video or had an explanation of all the mechanics (ie. no firsthand experience). Guess what! First attempt wipe, second attempt win.

...and before you say "they carried you", know that I was i96 and was among the last to die on the one wipe we had.

Getting through a fight is definitely possible without firsthand experience. Some people are just quick learners.

To be fair, that fight is all a tank fight, so if you are playing healer or range DPS, then it's very easy to just follow a mark and shoot the right target to get the kill.

Worst case was that you might have AoE'd the spiny but I'm sure someone explained that to you easily enough.

If the tank never watched a video, then god speed to that group.

So you'll be kicked out of parties...less?

This devaluation of the player occurs regardless of how many videos you watch. I went to a t5 party that had half the party leave on the first wipe, on assumptions and complaints. No one bothers to explain anything, no one works together unless its a set party. Its first try or they start kicking/leaving.

Later on we won after two more attempts, though I will say I hope T5 isn't the new norm.

But in all seriousness, I am only saying that because I enjoy debates, as I said above, I often don't watch videos myself and enjoy the learning process as much as the next person. It cannot be denied, though, that using the knowledge of those who came before is an invaluable tool for all tasks. The feeling of accomplishment when discovering new techniques is no less so for having started with the techniques of others, at least for me.

Also, how is it "ruining someones day" if you que up to content you don't know, but make honest attempts at completing it?

The real problem with this game is that there are so many entitled brats who feel like, "one fail = leave". We have an hour to beat primals, but I've rarely ever been in a group that lasted more than 20 minutes. One or two wipes and someone rage quits, rather than sticking around and trying to help the group achieve victory. That's the real problem, not someone who doesn't want to watch a video showing them exactly what to do.

It's heartwarming to see some people with a grain of civil sense are left.


Youtube is free, people pay a sub to play. No wrong in spending game-time watching other people playing, no wrong in preferring to spend that time actually playing either.


PS: I've been in such a DF group once, OSUbuckeye, and we had a lot of fun and gained much experience during the hour we, all newb and strangers that we were, spent on that primal.

He's actually partially right you know. Going into a random group, you do sort of go in with some intent to waste other people's time. Because as the people on your side of the fence always like to say "you can't expect anything in a DF group" like it only applies to the other side.

Speak for yourself? Not everyone considers time spent on entertainment as wasting time.
