Sadly we don't have someone that can be active here in the NA forums for FFXIV like you would see in other games. Hell despite LoL having constant updates, changes, and etc on nearly a weekly or bi-weekly basis the designers there are very active with the community.
I'm sure it is, but it usually takes a while for them to change things, not "immediately."

It's good for communication to go back and forth, but there are instances where the developer needs to be careful as you don't want the community to be making the game instead of you.

This thread highlights a problem that no one has solved yet. Content takes months to make, but lets hypothetically say there were no lockouts in this game. It would take the people who are "bored" right now, 1 week max to clear everything in a patch if you could just keep doing it over and over with no restrictions. They would still be bored. As this is a subscription game, this wouldn't bring them as much money financially.

Sorry but that's not the point of having this sort of communication. There's always gonna be constant input and feedback. Communication is there for the community to know that the team does or does not agree to and why. If they do agree that communication helps the community know that it will happen, if there's delays, and so on that it's justified to avoid community wide outbursts.

Only reason a team should ever change is when they themselves don't realize they are placing unnecessary restrictions on themselves that is also affecting the game they are making. That's the valuable of having such communication.

As far as lockouts go, if it's for the sake of "longevity" then "loot lockouts" are a better approach to "raid lockouts". They should only have it last until there's a world first or top 10-20 different groups finish coil then remove that lockout in the following maintenance or on a reset instead of making the update change after a major patch.

    I disagree.

Especially with the case of selling runs, being able to bring that into the equation allows more gear to flow out to people who wouldn't necessarily get it in the first place by themselves or with their own group. Having this system in place allows them to recycle content just as they did with Binding Coil 1 where a lot of people entered for the first time 6 months after it was released. It extends the longevity of the content.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not against loot lockouts, I would rather they have that so no shows don't completely stonewall a group but it's very clear to me why they chose this way of doing things.

1.) The current system doesn't prevents it only postpones it and it affects players more than it does offenders.
2.) Gear is gonna flow out regardless. So restricting and punishing the overall community because "I don't want to see everyone with gear" is a very unhealthy approach. Since those people offended by it can easily go "I don't want you to see my money".
3.) The whole "by themselves" argument confuses me, since it is "group based content" but then it changes from "by themselves" to "unqualified groups". If Square-Enix doesn't want people to have gear then they shouldn't make content based around "gear".
4.) It isn't really extending it's forcibly dragging people back into old content.

I'm not getting you wrong but what I see is an issue that needs to be address over one that needs to be enforced.
