Nope. That's not how it works. Ya'll can spend as much time as you like redefining need in this context to suit your point, but it doesn't matter. Square-enix has ALREADY defined need. Need means it is appropriate for your current class. You can talk all you want about how you "need" something for an off-class, but the fact of the matter is you're just wrong. Getting deeper, you don't NEED any one piece of gear for progression either. For all but the absolute highest tier of gear, there are, surprise, other options! Maybe instead of getting the Plundered Bliaud that's unique in looks, you just buy a robe? Statwise the difference is minimal to none. If anything, it could easily be argued that someone who is going for a specific piece because of its look NEEDS it more than you, who would have multiple options if all you're looking for is stats
