To be fair, an I97+ BRD doesn't need a Garuda Bow or i70 piece of armor compared to the fresh 50 trying to gear up. So while both are entitled by definition, why would someone with an unweathered Sold weapon need a Garuda bow?
Legit question - Why take gear away from someone who'll actually get use out of it in their progression?
Well, put it this way, there I am leveling my Monk and in Satasha the Acolyte Robe drops, the WHM in the group is a lvl 50 with Coil gear doing their roulette. I am still leveling my casters so the robe would be a great help for when they hit 15, but since I came in as my Monk I cannot need.
The WHM doesn't "need" that robe other than the slim possibility it is for an alt also, but they are in the same boat I am in, rolling for another class, except I cannot need roll and they can, they inevitably win the roll just because they can roll need and I am stuck with greed. How is that fair?
Legit Answer: Because it doesn't matter what someone plans to do with the drop once they have it. Those who've put in the time and effort have earned their right to roll on it.
So it comes more down to: "Should I be nice and let someone who gets use out of it try their luck or should I should be that guy and take it even though I have zero use for it?"
Retainers need Primal weapons and gear from coil 1 too.
I like frog
If you want to need on an item, come as that class. Simple as that.
Unless you checked what classes the WHM has leveled (which you obviously didn't) you would have known instantly if they could use it for leveling, and its highly likely he did need it for that; the other possibility is he wanted it for Glamour, as that robe is one of the better-looking ones in the game.
Third option? GC Turn-Ins. Seals are Valuable, and if that's all he wanted the robe for its perfectly fine for him to do so. If there are no leveling casters in the group when I'm healing a lowbie dungeon, I will Need on all caster/healer loot to turn in for seals, otherwise I Greed on it (and still win 90% of the time).
Its also obvious you didn't say anything to the WHM about needing the robe for an alt. No right to complain, IMO, if you can't be bothered to type a few words before rolling.
It's fair because no one gets to be the judge of whether someone else has a valid reason for wanting the loot. Come back to the dungeon next time as a caster, and when you Need the item and win it, the person you won the roll against will have their own list of reasons why they deserved the loot more than you.
Yes. Both people participated in the fight, so both can roll on it.
You say zero use, but to someone that wants it, it's not zero use to them. If you wanna be nice and pass all drops to others, go for it dude.
