If he isn't old enough to be Mistbeard himself, I think it would be nice if he was Mistbeard's son. Mistbeard and Bloefhis hated each other and had a bloody battle, and now their children are working together to save Limsa. Although, you'd think if he was related to Mistbeard he would be the one who inherited the guns, and with piracy being so important to Limsa's history I can't think why he'd want to hide his identity if Merlwyb doesn't.

I'd even go as far as some pirates might feel that he would make the better admiral, causing a divide between those who support Merlwyb and those who want to put Mistbeard on the wheel (even if he wouldn't want it).

Funny enough, if you talk to his right hand man after completing the quest, he berates you for asking who the new Mistbeard is. Something along the lines of "Were you not paying attention? We weren't being that subtle" (paraphrased).
