I'm confused about Paladin skills/job. Skills aren't unlocking.

I just unlocked the Paladin class the other night. I have the soul crystal equipped. It says I am a Paladin. However, any exp I get are "Gladiator experience points." I also have not unlocked a Paladin skill I should have at level 35 and I just hit 36 I read in the active help where your main class and job class are the same. I couldn't find anything else to show what might be going on. I'm probably just missing something or don't quite fully understand it yet. Any help on why this is would be greatly appreciated.

EDIT: Of course, I figure it out on my own five seconds after posting this... I didn't realize skills were given to you via class quests. I must have missed that active help or dialogue. Problem solved.

jobs don't level, only classes do, so you can only get class experience points

As you level as PLD or whatever your job is, what you are really leveling is your base class. All the abilities that you will unlock solely through leveling will be the class based ones. Your job is like the extra icing on the cake that helps make the class shine, or completely changes their dynamic in the case of ARC>SCH.

The way that you unlock stuff that is job specific are through the class/job quests that are available every 5 levels. After you get the quest to unlock your job, you will be doing those quests through the NPC that you unlocked the job through.

If you actually read the Job Text after unlocking the Job... It does say too return too the Guy After 5 Levels for more.
