    They didn't change them, there were just fewer people doing them so the zerg wasn't there to steamroll everything once people realised dungeons were better XP.

    2.28 actually saw them change the scaling though so now they scale much better. Those big boss fates that used to be impossible without a zerg are now quite easily soloable. When I got The Four Winds for my animus last week I was expecting to need a group for it but it's soloable since 2.28's scaling fix.

    -FATEs are still ok-ish to level in. If you liked doing them before, you don't really have to stop now. Just keep in mind they're a bit tougher since you'll likely be solo or very few people

    -Leves are a quick source of exp, believe it or not

    -Guildhests

    -Dungeons

    -Take a look at your challenge log (the quest to unlock it is in Limsa Lominsa in the Drowning Wench from a Miqo waitress). You can get lots of exp and money from doing things you'd normally be doing anyway!

    I would avoid FATEs. In the thread where people complain about the Atma, I have been told that FATEs shouldn't be used to level up your character and that that's the Duty Finder's option. I just think it is unfair but we can't help it ... I think it is pretty obvious that now if your level is low, chances are you won't even have get to hit mobs before the fate ends ...

    At the moment, I guess that :
    LEVEs are the fastest way to level up at least until level 20 (more or less), not sure about how they are convenient after that;
    Guildests reward players with a fair amount of exps the first time you do them with a new class;
    Duty Roulette is always a good choice;
    Don't forget of logging off when your character has a job /class you have mastered to lvl50, this will give you an exp bonus that should make faster leveling through dungeons;
    Hunting Log: if you are a DPS waiting for duty finder, this is really helpful (doing this with a friend is better)
    As soon as you unlock Dzamael, recruit 3 party member through party-finder and have a couple of speed runs (50k exp each run); do the same when Aurum Vale is available (100k exp each run)

    They changed the way the FATEs scaled in 2.1.
    "A FATE's difficulty will now be determined by the number of players who participated in the previous"

    Before even without a large zerg, most FATEs were easily doable in a short amount of time. With the changes, it made doing the FATE next time rather hard if the number of people doing them decreased. As well as making the FATEs generally require more time to complete, even if there was a zerg going around clearing them. Making dungeons even more attractive.

    I have always done dungeons because I have always hated FATE's. I hate them even more now (if that is possible).

    Not to mention FATE's are far from what they used to be when it comes to participation.

    I just queue up the highest and second highest dungeon (unless its a dungeon i wont touch with a 100 foot pole *cough*AV*cough*) as well as roulette/hunts/challenge.

    Having just raised DRG from 1-50 in the last few weeks, I did:

    --Levequests
    At each new tier, only do them at +4 levels. The XP this way (including bonuses) is similar to FATEs in the area, and you don't have to wait on them. Use your chocobo companion, even though it sucks away 1/3 of your kill XP for itself. Level 35+ it starts taking around 20 leves and more to gain a single level from only leves. Do whatever FATEs are in the area first, and then do the Levequests until the next group of FATEs spawn.

    --FATEs
    Not only are there far fewer people doing these now, they seem to spawn less frequently than before. Most Atma farming groups will let you in, though, just because it's faster for them even if you aren't there for the same reason. Northern Thanalan for 42+ on my server was a ghost town, but I managed to get into one small group for a couple of levels.

    --Dungeons
    For the time it takes to fully clear a dungeon, the actual XP you get is about on par with FATE grinding, maybe a little slower, but it provides a break from the grind. Of course, still do whatever FATEs or levequests you can while in the queue.

    --Other
    Each Hunting log entry is about equal to a single FATE or Levequest.
    Each Challenge log entry for Levequests, FATEs, and Dungeons is worth about 1/6 of a level, I believe, maybe 1/8? Each entry is obtainable only 1/week, though.
    I didn't do any Guildhests, but the first-time bonus is per class now instead of per character.
    Around 41+ you can do Beastman daily quests, but this is less XP than a Levequest, and only 6/day.

    Once you get to LV42-ish, you can also start running the Tribal dailies for a decent amount of EXP.
