This. This right here.
Find it hilarious that a lot of people who spam in this thread didn't type the same stuff in that gay marriage thread. Like this is the line that's too far allegedly. Everything or nothing. Not everywhere gay marriage is legal just like not everywhere polygamy is legal. All this bashing that's towards this thread can EQUALLY fit that other petition in the past. This isn't necessarily hypocritical, but very odd as a whole. The whole life bonding thing shouldn't exist at all. If you're going to change the name to have said past petition settle.... then add the polygamy. Everything... or nothing...
There is no comparison between polygamy and gay marriage. The two issues are so far apart it's mind boggling.Find it hilarious that a lot of people who spam in this thread didn't type the same stuff in that gay marriage thread. No it's actually the same. One loves the same gender, the other loves multiple people. One is starting to get slowly accepted into society... the other isn't yet! It's small minded thinking that's holding this back. Just because people in this generation (narrow minded) find it gross that multiple people can love another isn't your place to judge. I remember this was said about gay marriage what early this century and throughout most the past in the A.D.s?
For all I know the OP could make this out of spite, but in reality it's not far from the truth.

I've yet to see any convincing literature that tells me that one is born a polygamist seen as how marriage is a societal construct.
Yeah it's called the animal kingdom. See Lions as a notorious example.
Also the whole born gay thing hasn't been proven to be true yet. A good amount of social engineering at a very very young age can do wonders (which is the other theory). Drop this political topic and stay on track.

Seriously? that's your only rebuttal? Great way to downsize the whole gay marriage then. Lions don't get married. NO DUH. Tell me something I don't know. Gay lions don't get married. Touch on that topic too! Don't Michael Moore this with pure half truths. You're just socially engineered to believe polygamy is gross but gay marriage isn't. I have nothing against gay marriage, but the fact is that they're both either born or choose to do what they do (neither has been dis proven)... and that is reality.

All the serious responses to this.
Hoo-boy.

I've always been curious about this.
Born? No, out of the question.
Influences? Highly Probable.
Is it normally a conscious choice? No.
To sumaraise every possible eventuality for every single person under one umbrella and saying "Social Engineering Does [X]" is equally as ridiculous as saying "Everyone like Cigarettes"
Every person was raised under different circumstances, different influences, a different mind-set, a different out look on everything. It's near impossible to pin it down to anything other than how the brain simply wires up in the end.
I'd personally disagree almost completely with social engineering being a "definitive" outcome, as my own scenario and up bringing would completely contradict that theory, through and through.
OH LOOK I'M OVER-THINKING NOW.
But food for thought.
