This. I play this game to escape reality. Now they are adding a feature to remind me that I am alone and miserable. Thanks Yoshi.

This is what happens when people attempt to use politics to shape culture, rather than reflect it.
50 years ago, the vast majority of things that were political were those things that involved the working of national government and it's affairs. (Trade regulation, wars and national defense, taxes, budgets, corruption, etc..)
But today, we have activists who attempt to use the strong hand of government to change and affect every aspect of people's lives and culture.
And we see the result. Marriage is now political, as is weather, diet, driving, sports, religion, clothing, health care, video games, guns, television, education, housing, etc, etc.
In fact, name one thing that ISN'T way too political and opinionated these days.
Go ahead, I'll wait...

Ok, I'll bite, but in a retrospective manner to my original post:
There is no need for overinflated political / opinionated RL views in an mmo.
Videogames are "supposed" to be a relaxing way for people to be entertained. Not a venue for speculative mindsets.
In an ideallistically jouvenile manner: When I log in (to this game) I want to kill things with giant swords and fireballs. I do not wish to be saturated by selective RL groups and their constant vie for real life acceptance. It's unfortunate enough that Selective groups are cramming their views down my throat daily in the real (North American) world. Let me kill Dragons in relative peace. Leave your RL issues at the door.

I agree. I play video games to escape that crap.
And unlike in RL Marriages, 'MMO marriages' are meaningless fluff.
If RP'ers want it, then let them set it up however they like... but don't waste dev resources on creating what a giant flamebait system when ARR has more serious issues that need to be addressed
How dose something like in-game marriage effect this though? How dose it stop you killing dragons etc? Chances are it will be something you can ignore completely, while those who wish to use such features can.Ok, I'll bite, but in a retrospective manner to my original post:

As has been pointed out, how does someone in game getting married stop you from shooting fireballs or hitting things with your floppy sword? There is no need for overinflated political / opinionated RL views in an mmo.

It doesn't you can still do those, unless your worried you might get invited to said weddings? And judging by your post I doubt anyone would want you there
