It's quite clear the stats are for a caster, I never wrote that I wanted that shield. I wrote that I couldn't roll need on it.

I've always looked at the item before deciding what to roll on it in other games.
So when I see GLA on it, I would assume (wrongly) that as a gladiator I could roll on it.

The same goes for GLA wirh strength and other stats I can use, but it would seem that they are deemed dps stats and as a tank I can therefor not roll on them.
So this then explains why I couldn't roll on any other GLA gear or disciple of war gear since they had a stat on them that is dps and not tank.

That's good to know, but would have been nice if it was made clear to you in game.
Maybe it is, I've just not seen it.

You can't roll need on a piece of equipment that is not suited for your class, it seems you already knew why you couldn't need on it but were just attempting to be a lootwhore. If you were able to roll need just because you can equip it casters and healers would bitch up a storm as generic mage gear is all classes, also have fun getting accessories you actually need.

The shield itself is not important. That was just used in the screenshot since it was the item dropped from the last boss.
Meaning that I could take the screenshot like I did, without wasting the groups time doing so.

I didn't want that shield, I couldn't care less for it since it was clearly for a caster. So I had no intentions of rolling need on it.

The question was about the greyed out need button, since I didn't get that the game displays all classes that in theory can equip the item.
Had it only displayed the classes that would actually benefit from the stats, the casters, I would never had thought that I had stumbled onto a bug or may have changed something somewhere in some options by fault that made it so that I couldn't roll on gear at all.
Especially since it also happened on all other gear drops in the instance that either displayed GLA or disciple of war on them.

I even asked the group about it, and they couldn't give an answer so I came here.

You're not getting it. Just because there is no restriction on strapping on a piece doesn't mean it's appropriate gear for the class, this applies to everything you're talking about. All the tool tip means is that you can equip it, not that you nessecarily should.

When I made this thread I didn't understand how it worked.

I then understood it after it was explained on page 1 of this thread. I even thanked people for explaining it.

Yet there were still people writing after that, that were only thinking that I wanted that shield.
So I made another post explaining what it did.

In earlier instances I could roll on gear that had GLA on it, gear with strength, vit and other stats.
The suddenly I come into an instance where I can't roll on any gear, even gear with those stats.
Is it then wrong to think that something had possible bugged or I had tampered with something I shouldn't.

So I came here asking for help, someone to hopefully tell if it was a bug or somehting I did. Or a third possibility.

A lot of early gear has All Classes as the Required Class. That's why you were able to Need on them (that's an important distinction, you can Greed on anything, but you can only Need on gear from your Class). As you go along, gear will be more Class or Job-specific. So no, you didn't do anything wrong and it wasn't a bug, that's just how the loot rules are. You can still try your luck on Greed, for other jobs.
