Dancer - Evasion Tank. Fabulous Support.

While you wildly dance away, this infuriates the enemy as in you are showing that he is merely a toy for you. You evade all his attacks by flamboyantly dancing away. Your flourish and fabulous movements also invigorate your party, they are happy and feel rallied to fight! On the off chance that you do get hit, your beauty is shattered and your bones lay broken on the floor. you eventually bleed out and die..but for those brief moments where 100s of dodges ran across your screen, you vaguely remember them now..they are drifting away..you were fabulous then.

Dancers last words: " tonight, I just wanna dance guys...lets just dance tonight.."

Problem with an evasion tank... if they are any good at all they're going to replace PLD and WAR as the go-to most likely. If you have bosses that can already almost one-shot tanks if they aren't prepared for it, how would an evasion tank deal with it? They can't have the same high-HP and self-healing as a WAR, and they can't have the raw mitigation of a PLD, and if they can just dodge those attacks why bother bringing anything else?

Evasion tanks always go one of two ways. They are either broken, overpowered tanking gods that never die, or they are useless squishy messes that turn into a fine red mist the first time their RNG armour fails.

My thread is clearly for comedy and open discussion. You do make strong points. I also said the dancer would die in a bloody mess once the RNG fails. Please do not reply with a serious answer to my "not-so serious thread" just have fun with it .

That's why evasion tanking shouldn't be built around RNG, but skills / player skill. Think Warrior tanking in TERA before the blocking patch. Although I doubt FFXIV could handle low latency combat mechanics like that as it is now.

Dancer was always support in the other FF. I think in this game they will make it like BRD if anything. Nice DD with buffs for the PT.

This is only true when they rely upon evasion for a substantial majority of their mitigation. Druids in WoW are(were? haven't played in years) the nominal "evasion" tanks but they do just fine because they back it up with dramatically increased hit points and really high armor. As long as you don't completely trash your ability to survive burst damage (i.e. bring some hp buffs or absorb shields), evasion tanks work out just fine. Evasion can be best likened to the +healing that WAR gets: it's a mean mitigation tanking stat, not an eHP tanking stat. If you have an evasion tank, give it something to bring its eHP up to the level of the WAR and PLD and it'll do fine.

As to the op, I've never really understood why anyone seems to think that Dancer should be a tank, though I've also never really understood why some people think that it makes more sense as a tank than as a DPS job. Dancer could *feasibly* be turned into a tank and one of my favorite mental exercises is looking at ways to turn existing classes into effective members of other roles with as few major mechanics changes as possible, but ARR isn't a game where you have jobs fulfilling multiple roles based upon spec; each job has a single role, so you kind of have to default to the role that makes the most sense for them and Dancer (or Ninja) as a tank is just *really* stretching.

Honestly, I expect to see Dancer as a healing job. BRD as a DPS class was weird enough, given that BRD actually had heals in most of its iterations whereas Dancer was mostly debuffs and some attacks, but Dancer is, quite honestly, the most obvious DoW healing job, if they ever decide to add one.
