Unstable paths around Chicago and into Montreal...common issue for a long time. Old peering agreements aren't sufficient for today's usage patterns. TWC has overloaded gateways, line ingress, bad channel bondings, and they're not all on the same DOCSIS standard. Their networks are just FUBAR.

Been going head to head with TWC for almost 20 years over this crap. It's nothing new, and not isolated to FFXIV. ALL of this has happened before, and it will all happen again.

Capture/print both good/bad traces, as well as modem logs and signal pages. Forward it to their tier3 techs so they can narrow down the problems. Important distinction--you want TIER3, not Tier1 or 2. They'll keep sending techs to verify your local connectivity--play their game until you get escalated to higher tiers. If you are persistent and feed them good data, you can get things cleaned up. I've managed to get mine tweaked out to <60ms latency on average now... but it's taken a lot of effort.

It actually isn't perfect. Pathping hides some data that may indicate potential issues. Around Chicago on Level3 could have lag spikes that are not accurately demonstrated in this report. It is a VERY common issue with TWC these days, and it comes and goes at odd times:

snapshot updates periodically, based on source data from here:

    http://downdetector.com/status/time-warner-cable

You can see similar charts for lots of web servics (and even some ISP's) from the same site here:
    http://downdetector.com/companies

If you actually take some time to track this stuff, you can see the ebb and flow of this problem all over the place.

At specific times of day, you may see the same areas line up with problems across multiple services because it is due to regional problems amongst the ISP's.

Again, the following snapshots are dynamic and will update periodically throughout the day. Source pages are linked below each.

I would take your pathping information and get a hold of your ISP, and let them know that somewhere along the way there's an issue. Give them the information, and from there they can try to pin down where the connection's gone bad, get a hold of the right people, and fix it.

You never know, maybe somebody crashed into a net hub or something somewhere.
    Someone get the draino, please.

"Ignoring us american players" Cute. Really Cute.
au has the most connection problems out of everyone, ontop of having the worst internet connections in the world, and ontop of that Us/Eu/Jp servers have all had issues lately which makes it even worse.

Imo the problem lies in how much tunneling they are using. Run a few traces throughout the week, you'll see even without packet loss or line jitter a few tunnels stop responding after a while and just plain BOOT you OUT. Not even free to play MMO's have had this issue. But square constantly say they are Working on it.

To be fair to SE, they're probably afraid of even thinking about Australia.

I mean, it astounds me that people even live there. It's like every living thing there has some deadly poison and wants to kill you, it's ridiculous. How do you even manage?

They use Magical Protection Dragons. No. They BREED Magical Protection Dragons. But Australia is the Land of Nopes.

I've noticed that between Chicago and the datacenter in Montreal seems to be a common place for dropped packets and what-not. I had the same loss of packets when I last did a pathping and I have Comcast Business Class.

Ah, but will facing north-by-northeast at 2:45 a.m. while the moon is a waning crescent result in a 27% increase in your chances to synthesize HQ mythril ingots!? That is real the question! ~Fernehalwes~
