    Someone more knowledgeable offer some enlightenment, please?

    Why in Zeus's gaping butthole are we still dealing with Coil lockouts?!?

    This system invariably forces players into "Static" groups, which I personally despise to no end, and utterly destroys FCs who's players don't always have set availability and schedules.

    Here's the situation we have been battling with since the start of Coil. We have a small FC of close friends, about 12 highly active players. Each week only 8 of those 12 get to run 2nd Coil. The others... well... yeah.

    So we're forced to either recruit, which is nigh-impossible since this system has already forced most players into a Static, or cycle players in which means you're always going to have players who are screwed out of running Coil for a week unless they run off and join their own Static which, imo MAKES FC'S POINTLESS!

    ...grrr...

    1. To stretch out content. If not for a lock out, people would get full sets of gear + alt gear in less than a month. Due to getting so much gear, they'd also rapidly progress through second coil, making it nearly pointless within a few months time. They'd quickly grow more tired of the game. It's mainly a artificial barrier of progress.

    2. People would sell runs.


    If you're talking about making it like how CT gear used to be, one gear per week lockout instead, that would also do the same as number 1. on the list. You'd fully gear out a character within 8-9 weeks, faster if you count oils / sands. People would also sell runs in this instance.

    You nailed it with your #2. Number 1 is easy to combat. Could use a system like CT, only limit it even more so that your one and only chance to roll on gear for the week is your first kill. After that you are locked out of rolling. Problem = solved.

    But... selling runs. Yeah.

    You posted just before my edit. Even in CT status, people would still fully gear out with coil in 8ish weeks. Even with your proposed lockout, then it would definitely just be ran to carry people / sell runs.

    Yeah, you'd have to further limit it so that you're locked out of rolling on loot after your first boss kill of the week, whether you win or lose on that loot roll. That way each week you are still only allowed to roll on exactly 2 pieces of gear, even if you run it 100 times. CT lets you roll until you win one. That would definitely not work to limit Coil gear.

    So, it still leads to the problem that people will still sell runs. "Oh, we're all locked for the week? Let's sell one spot until the buyer gets something or gets locked".

    An overall poor plan. I think the lockouts will be fine once there are more end-game dungeons to run regularly. It's because there is only one raid to run that lockouts are even still talked about.

    Wouldn't hold my breath, every 6 months they obsolete the current tier and replace it with a new tier. Unless they change their road map this will still be a problem. Even this new Brutal version they are talking about shares the lockout with the "normal" we have now.

    I hate the whole static group/lockout format of Coil as well, and wish it was more like CT where it only locked you out of the loot instead of complete access of the dungeon itself. Too many times have I seen "Oh, *insert person here* can't make it tonight, guess we aren't running it this week," or "*Insert person here* stopped playing, now we have to find someone else or rearrange one of our other static groups." It's extremely inconvenient.

    And as far as merc-ing goes... I don't know why that's not illegal in the first place. It just seems like it would create too much opportunity for exploiting people, and it creates a more elitist environment. "Oh, you can't beat Titan EX? Better farm up that million gil, noob," etc... What happened to just being able to help people?

    If you remove this, you just open up the run-selling market.
