By the end of it you'll be saying threat generation is too strong for tanks; unless someone's an average 20 levels average above you they're just not pulling hate after the first 10 seconds of a fight.

Its been my experience that the vast majority of the time its the tanks and healers doing the crying about DPS. I've been blamed for all manner of things. Tank keeps dying? Must be the DPS! Healer died this time? Whats wrong with the DPS?! I got locked out of a battle and they healer made a dumb mistake and they even joked, "Lets just blame the DPS".

I've had to hold back my abilities because the tank couldnt keep hate and the healer kept getting murdered and they literally said the DPS isnt killing fast enough. If I'm pulling hate, its my job to scale back but anyways...thats been my experience in this game.

When it comes to the kings of excuses the list goes...

    1) Tank
    2) Mage
    3) Melee

You need skills in ff14 to be a good Tank , You need also to be patient and know how to control your nerves , that why (i think) the Tanks classes are the least played. Sch & Whm are my other classes and these classes are way easier to play than my pld in dungeon. (or maybe i'm a better healer than Tank)

Anyway, As Paladin i only have problem with high ilvl geared DPS , that do brainless damage without adapt.
So i give a lovely warning with a nice smile at start saying to the boys to calm down. Some agree and everything work fine. But some get Cocky ,so i get Bitchy.
Letting them Tanking, without doing anything to grab hate back.
After they die. I ask a last time to mitigate their damage and adapt to my tanking.

Usually they finally agree , or just vote abandon/rage quit.

Cocky DPS usually think they just have to brainless dps , and that the tank & the healer will do the rest, these people will never get along with me.

This this this times one thousand and one!

It drives me bonkers when I have a high-powered DD pull hate off me despite spamming Butcher's Block in an attempt to keep it, especially when they start spamming AoEs. Then they start running around in circles while Im running after THEM trying to grab the bloody enemy. Then the other DD and Healer are running after us trying to DPS/Heal. Its an unfun merry-go-round of torment. ;c

Yep. Good gear does not a good DPS make. The ability to adapt your role does. If DPS are pulling mobs off the tank, then they need to adjust their playing style to the tank they are currently running with, pure and simple.

Otherwise, I agree 100% about leaving them alone to tank the adds that they pull off of you.

As a paladin and now transitioning into warrior. Warrior has the leg up on holding agro, but sufferers on survival with or without bloodbath and HP hits from inner beast.

Paladin really is the easier tank role because you really have to try hard to die. So many defense skills and stoneskin. But they suck at agro. Fight or flight is macroeconomic with my flash skill and never want it down. Got to use STR food for more dps and agro. Well that's my 2 cents

Lol? Warrior has an edge but I don't see how that means paladins suck at holding aggro.

I really don't have problems with it and I'm a full VIT build. :P
