PS3 to PS4 Upgrade question

Ok so, my friend has a PS4, but she wants to get final fantasy xiv for the ps4. Now there's a sale going on in the ps store for the digital version of the game and it's 12$ for the normal game and 22$ for the collectors. But here's the trigger, she only has a ps4 and not a ps3. So if she were to buy the game off the playstation store via the internet, it becomes attached to her account, is it possible then to upgrade via the mog station, if she creates a account before hand and links it to her PSN? Or do you NEED a ps3?

As far as I know, this "registering" is only possible by starting the game on a PS3 while being logged in to the PSN account which was used for the purchase. But if your friend lives close to you, why not invite him/her for a coffee and get it done? But be warned: Installation is a major download orgy (8 GB from the PS3 store and 12 or 20 GB of updates when starting the game for the first time), so you might want to plan for a longer session.

After the registration is done, your friend will be able to start the upgrade procedure via the Mogry Station. After another download orgy (on his/her PS4), you should be set.

Why not buy the ps4 version so avoid that step? Not everyone had a ps3 so that wont apply to your friend case.

The PS3 version is much cheaper, and the PS3 -> PS4 upgrade is free (currently).

Yes you would have to register it with the PS3 but you can then download the PS4 version free and go on the mog station and switch it over.
