People need to stop connecting parser use with being an abrasive/harassing/"dbag" player. I've said it before, I'll say it again:

If someone has it in them to harass another player, not having a DPS meter won't stop them.

I'm definitely for the addition of DPS Meters. People use parsers already. Clearly. In fact, it's due to this that the metagame developed so fast, and will continue to do so with any new classes/jobs/skills/adjustments. As always though, many are keen on taking notice of only the bad, which is usually very easy to spot and "in your face" whilst being ignorant of all the good that comes from having access to DPS feedback.

Now, I think a lot more needs to be done to early levels and in general how the game handles the leveling/learning process for DPS jobs, because having DPS meters would not be the solution to bad DPS as a whole. The solution to players at level cap who do horrendous DPS is to remedy the lack of DPS walls that would halt progression until you take the time to figure out the right rotations.

What DPS meters are good for at endgame is (besides the whole testing bit) figuring out who is holding back DPS. This doesn't necessarily mean kicking them. The decision to kick or harass is entirely separate from the use of the tool to ascertain the responsible person.

Clearly, just as other classes do for their roles. However I think the benchmarks players would want are significantly higher than what the developers would ask for.

Placing benchmarks or modifying the "echo" system could also help with this.
For example, there's 4 dps contributing to downing "Y" boss, each player is designated "X" amount of DPS needed to beat the DPS timer.

If a player that fails they're granted an enhanced "echo" to even out the party. Maybe even a retribution strike from boss that kills them when failing DPS quota.

This would fit better with SE's "everyone can play" philosophy.

Maybe also they need a LOT more tooltips to help DPS and suggest rotations, especially in class/job quests.
