Well tbh a dps meter is a great tool don't get me wrong. Although can you imagine how many people will whine, cry, tell their mother, make pity parties, or whatever in the forums?( no point in hiding it, this is a care bear community. Just say something not even remotely offensive someone would be offended here) SE will probably have to hire more gms just so they can keep up with the new sets of reports this will bring in.

Honestly...we have people crying here because they have to skip cut scenes...that's not not even a big thing. I'm not even gonna start with other stuff people whine about.

    Tl;dr:
We're not mature enough as a community for a dps meter. It's a necessary tool yes I completely agree but as a community were not matured enough for it.

Then don't give them to the entire community?

Make them available for personal use (only tracks your own DPS).

...or just give parsing tools to static raid groups that wish to use them. Static groups could have their own section within the FC menu where officers can assign who's in which raid group and what tools they can use.

There's plenty of ways they could make parsing tools available to the people that need them, this "bad for the community" malarkey makes it sound like it's something they haven't even put a single thought into.

Then again, after 9+ months of coding the alliance system they still can't deliver it when promised. I can see why they're hesitant to add any extra strain to their workload....

Yoshida's off the cuff remarks on parsers amount to "Use them, but don't be a dick to others about it". The whole "saying parser gets u banned!!!!" scare was always vastly exaggerated. The person in question was punished not for parsing, but for 1) harassing someone with parser data 2) lying to a GM about it. And they weren't even banned. It was a suspension that got downgraded to a warning. As long as the people you parse with regularly are friends (a static, an FC) and you don't mention it to other people and/or harass people over it, you're entirely fine.

Then you'll have people saying "post screenies of your dps then you can join" it's very improbable but not impossible.

If they don't give it to the entire community people will start whining saying they only cater to "some" people(imagine that whole same sex marriage thing) even if they aren't.

And I'm willing to bet my animus bow and my miqote's first time that a lot of the scob static have someone with a parser already but ofc they have to be sneaky about it since the whole parser deal right now is at "ask no questions, tell no lies"(if you have it keep it to yourself and trusted friends)

Look, I agree with you. I wish they have a legitimate dps meter. Heck idc if people even check my dps with that dps meter. I'm just explaining a possibility why they don't want to implement one.

Then crack down on troublesome/volatile players harder?

They could make it opt in/opt out on the users end, make the tools available to everyone but the user can keep their results private if they wish? Like I said earlier, there's PLENTY of ways they could do this.

I sincerely doubt SE are unwilling to add features to the game because the community is bad. It's a subscription based MMO, SE can choose to treat harassment with more severe repercussions if they believe it's affecting what they can and can't add to the game

If the dead DD still managed 460 dps and the next best did 290, the person who did 290 really needs to step up his game, or get better gear, or something. For dps done to adds, there's an option to see incoming damage by source, so that's easy to figure out. Interrupts usually increase personal dps (for DD classes, anyway) at the expense of the party; if they're holding their interrupts like they should, they'll do less dps than they can.

Considering there is an iLvl requirement to join end game battles, unless the DPS has awesome armor and accessories, but has a lv 30 weapon, then DPS is not the excuse. SE has ensured that if the party has the required iLVl to join the queue, then you CAN win the fight.

Try working with each other, watch one another, give tips, take tips gracefully and win the fight.

Talk about over exaggerating. Any content that's worthwhile to do is gonna be planned in advance on who does what, DPS is mostly irrelevant in that regard. You won't see anyone worth a damn trash talk on a bard that's lower than another bard if he had interrupt duty.

Meters have been used for forever in the MMO genre and their pros outweights their cons.

That would literally almost never happen and you know it. Once the culprit had been identified he or she would be kicked without a second thought.

Let the DPS meter be built into the game, so the bads can see for themselves how bad they are and nothing need be said, just like the threat meter is built into the game, so should the dps meter.

Let them be kicked so they may return a better player after re-thinking their dps.
