    Lag issues, data center choices

while in duties, I barely see the ae's on the ground before they damage me. I live in California and I play on the Diablos world. but the server time seems to be 9 hours different than my local time so the server must be pretty far away from me. How do I find out what world/data center is closest to California?

btw I have a very fast recently bought computer and even with low resolution and all effects at their lowest or off I still get booted from duties for not being able to dodge because of lag

There only two data centers One in Japan and Montreal Canada. The issue with lag is not really all due to how far you are to the data centers it's more how your ISP deal with sending information. For me in FL miami using ATT i don't lag or have issue as someone else who live in FL who have let's say time warner. A lot of people have to use battleping,WTFast and other programs just to play FFXIV without the issue you having.

I know a few people in california that play without issue so it could just be your internet. Sadly that all i know maybe someone else can give you more information best way to fix your lag issue.

"Server Time" is GMT regardless of which data center it's in, so you can ignore that. It's not the server's local time, which boggles the mind why it's even a clock option.

are the in/out nubers actual ping

nothing I have read tells me what the "in" and "out" values that are with the wifi symbol represent , if they are ping then my connection is horrible even though I have a very fast isp

I often wonder about this too. I tried looking up what ideal numbers would be but haven't found anything. So I have no idea how to interpret the numbers I see.

It's a numeric representation of how much "data" you're sending/receiving (likely bytes, but I can't be sure). Those numbers will vary wildly depending on what you're doing (data sent) and what's going on around you (data received).

If you're in an in-game city, your data received is going to be much larger than if you're in a sparsely populated area. If you're standing still doing nothing, your data sent is going to be zero, or close to it, most of the time.

These numbers cannot be used in any way to determine the quality of your connection, and have nothing to do with your ping and have everything to do with your actions and the actions of those around you. There is no "ideal" for these numbers.

Thanks for the explanation. Now I just wonder what the point of having that info displayed is. There really should be an fps or ping counter available in the UI.
