How does it go materia wise? I have like 65 alexandrites stacked up but still gathering the materias. But my question is how many crit I do you need to succeed to go to II and so on? Is it different if the cap is only up till 31 or 44?
Copied from another post, (obviously you won't use Piety, but just saying the material infusions in general and what they cap at)
The way the upgrades go is:
Determination: 7 Tier I, 8 Tier II, 8 Tier III, 8 Tier IV -> caps at 31
Piety: 8 Tier I, 8 Tier II, 8 Tier III, 9 Tier IV -> caps at 33
Spell Seed, Skill Speed, Crit, Accuracy, Parry: 11 Tier I, 11 Tier II, 11 Tier III, 11 Tier IV -> caps at 44
Here I was thinking my budget of 2m would be enough...wts my soul for det materia D:

There are a couple options available to get Tier IVs without dropping a huge amount on just one. Transmutation is one, but it is 5 meaningless/cheap Tier IV per random chance. Another option is if you have specific crafting high enough, spirit bonding lvl 70+ gear has a higher chance and more consistent rate of turning into Tier IV, but again this is random on which you will end up with. At least after you get all those bonded Tier IV you can take and try transmuting them too ~shrugs~ Just pointing out other options I've seen people do.

Question is if 11 tier IV, what are the chances of failure?
I still have a ways to go (only 8 Alexandrite atm) but once i have all of them i am trying to figure out what materia i need as i be clueless.
I have various grades already but would hate to loose IV materia because of failure.
I may end up doing something similar to Lunar so 15 acc, 27 det and 33 crit or something,
Just probably a little more crit and less acc

This is hard to wager as I've talked to a few who had none fail, while I personally lost 3 total. One at 80% chance of success, 1 at 70% and 1 at 60%. I'm sure there are others who have seen more, but I would say between 1-5 is the average of possible breaks unless totally unlucky with RNG.
Alright, which option seems better for the Bow
30Crit/30Det/15 Acc
OR
30Crit/25Det/20Acc
Obviously the second option is cheaper in terms of not having to buy more Tier 4's for Det. I have Det up to 25 right now so it's a matter of deciding if it would be better to spend the gil on getting the last 5 tier 4 for DET or if adding +5 points in Acc would be better instead.
I'm happy i won't need any 4's for crit at least...
