Is it just me or is there a widening gap between philosophy and reality when it comes to Casual/Solo players? I have noticed a disturbing trend from the last few patches in which SE has been trying to relegate solo player to DoH and DoL classes. During this time period SE has made it increasingly difficult to level DoW classes with the following adjustments:
1. Continued rebalancing of agro mobs making it more difficult to reach your quest mobs let alone being able to fight them unhindered. My secondary character has never been able to solo quests in Nanawa Mines because the last pack of mobs are always in the middle of agro mobs. There are several quest at Bold Knoll I have to bypass for this same reason. This last patch almost trebled the number of agro mobs I have to fight through at Bold Knoll and Iron Lake in order to reach my quest mobs.
2. The penalty to gear when using return after a KO. With the combination of agro mobs and quest mobs a solo player will die a number of times. So unless you have spent the time developing craft skills your gear will become unuasble in a short amount of time. Fortunately I can repair all my gear but a lot of ppl cannot.
3. With these factors and the penalties for doing quests below your current rank I must now go to Ul'dah and sometimes Gridana just to get my full complement of Regional quests. Doing this requires either the large expendatures of Anima and/or time in order to reach these locations. Prior to the patch I would fill out my quests with some level 30s and select higher levels of difficulty in order to get reason SP. Since the patch I spent so much Anima traveling to levee quest and company quest sites that I must now bypass the next several quest cycles in order to replenish my Anima to a reasonable level.
With these in mind I find myself spending less time now on my DoW job and more time grinding out DoH synths. You know that goes. Synth for 25 minutes wake up a short time later, rinse and repeat.
So Yoshi please make a decision. Are solo players to be restricted to crafting and gathering or do you have plans to rectify these concerns to make soloing a reasonable and enjoyable challange? Please let us know.
