Any possibility of more DOH/DOL gear in upcoming patches?

I was wondering if SE had considered other ways for DOH/DOL to get new gear, maybe something similar to what the DOW/DOM classes use?

I know these are a side item to the storyline but the current state of things is frustrating.

I can use soldiery to get gear good enough to clear current content. For DOH/DOL, I have to do much much more to get a single set crafted and melded enough to be usable.

    My pitch:
    * DOH/DOL sets that you purchase with tomestones. Make it a single type of currency for both types of gear.
    * Cap it at 450 per week, just like soldiery currently is.
    * Have the earning of the currency done by supply/provisioning missions for 1 star items so they can be done by players with unmelded HQ sets. (maybe from Rowena)
    * Keep the main hand and head piece gated behind the vendor in Mor Dhona like they are now.

Right now DOH/DOL are the only pain points left for me in the game and something like the above would go a long way toward fixing that for me.

I hope so, but it'll most likely be a LONG time from now, and something they either announce beforehand or introduce little by little. With the amount of gil it costs (or that you lose out on if you SB for it yourself), it'd be such a huge slap in the face to crafters that make the necessary melds to their current endgame crafting equips. They already introduced a replacement for the weapon (no materia melds possible, so no loss there) and the head equip (minor change due to low stat caps and materia needed to cap).

Even for me, where I melded most of my gear to cap on every craft before the huge increase in cost to materia, I'd feel a little disappointed and hurt if they introduced the new equips without some sort of need to have melded the originals at least a little. And that the equips couldn't be bought sort of thing. That really shouldn't be too big of a deal for people, given the apparent expectations they have out of crafters to have most/all crafts to 50. Most cross-class skills needed to reliably HQ 3-star equips and the upcoming desynthesis.

Edit: Oh wait, are you talking about acquiring the gear that we currently have? I thought you were referring to getting better gear than we have now lol.

This would be getting better gear than we have now. I have full HQ sets on all of my DOL and most of my DOH, but I'd love a better method of progression than the painful method of either sinking gil or the tedium of spiritbonding. I get the complaint about the time sink melding is and how it would upset current crafters, but the DOH/DOL gear deviates from the way other gear in the game works. Current endgame DOW/DOM gear is unmeldable except for the materia needed for a Novus.

I watched one of my old FC's best crafters throw up his hands (metaphorically) and take a break from the game in aggravation over the changes to crafting in 2.2, and having just now gotten into the new content on my crafters, I can see why he did. I'd like a way to make (slow) progress, without the pain of overmelding.

Believe me, I totally know what you and your FC member dislike about it. I question (and swear with no end) anytime I try to work on finishing my melds. 8% success? I'm sure these 60 materia I have will be enough!... 80+ materia later, no success in sight. Yet, when I hop on a gathering class and try to get something that has a 95% success chance (5% fail chance), what happens? 5/6 failed attempts. I hate every aspect of relying on RNG in this game.

Having said that though, crafting gear is not really based upon the same system you would expect from combat. Crafting gear serves no purpose but to provide an income or save you on costs. Although, with the amount you spend, exclusively doing it for the latter is a HUGE waste of effort, time, and gil. I can 100% HQ any equipment 2-stars or lower in a guaranteed manner, and with it being that way, the value of simply having HQ gear is diminished exponentially. That's where materia comes in. I'm sure you've heard of the old saying "gotta spend money to make money". Well that holds true in both RL and an MMORPG economy. It doesn't deviate from anything when you look at it from the intended context. Crafting gear is not combat gear, nor does it serve a similar purpose that would justify it being acquired in an equivalent manner.

Unless that means to acquire said gear involved a ton of gil to do, as in at least 1 million for maybe 1-2 equips, there's just no sense in gaining access to gear while doing something (in cost, in this case) that doesn't involve the basis behind what the gear is intended for.

I actually like the way it's 'gated' at this point. You currently need to have pretty decent gear/ melds to try for the level 70 pieces, but it's lenient enough that you can more or less ignore your headpiece while waiting for the level 70 one. Making it so that you don't actually have to craft anything difficult at all to obtain upgrades would surely annoy a lot of people who've spent a lot of time and effort to keep their crafting class(es) up to date.

I would certainly be ok with them adding a new piece every major patch or so similar to the artisan's / forager's stuff we have now.

Maybe 3 star AF gear that you would need for 4 star an 5 star recipes.
They would have the stats of melded 1 star AF gears, but with still empty materia slots.

I don't mind the gated feel of DOH atm, while personally I had wanted to keep my carpenter on top of the game, I've realized that until they release workshops I don't really have any interest in staying on top to create furniture.

I think one turn off was the fact that the master recipes you have to work towards only granted 2 new recipes and when you consider how much effort you had to go through just to obtain 2 unique recipes one which is used to obtain the other pieces of gear I just found myself of waiting til they release content that I want to do with DOH.

For now I'll probbaly attempt to stock up on materia, wait it out and when workshops or something more intriguing for DOH comes out I"ll pump effort into Carpenter then.
