True. That should come along with an ability save function.

Why didn't they think of something like that before? They even advertised it on the main page. Even XIV's ten year old predecessor had some kind of it.

But I dunno. Maybe it made the game more appealing, who knows? Stranger things have happened.

What does the general populace have to say:

    http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/07...es-patch-1-18/
Yes, let's see what they're saying:

Still waiting on map/landscape improvements (run from Ul'dah to Gridania and you'll know what I'm talking about) more specific con system (slaughter dozens of orange eyeballs or dodos only to be murdered outright by a blue-con marmot) better chat (too many problems to list), jumping (sure, laugh, but I VERY quickly tired of running ten minute detours around monster-encircled ridges that were no taller than my character's shin. That's not immersion or challenge, it's =lazy design=).
Oh. And for the love of all that is good and holy a client-side focussed UI, not to mention escaping the over-reliance of the Menu button. I only have to load the game for five minutes to know if the latest patch has reduced the degree of torture post-launch-beta-players have to suffer through.
Oh look, they're complaining about things that were fixed MONTHS AGO.

    I hate the internet.

No, and it's easy to tell why:

Ok let's say i'm Mister Smith, looking for a new MMO to play! two possibilities now:

1- i know about ffxiv = means that i already looked up for ffxiv and found out i didnt like it, it's most likely that i will not hear about a patch!

2- i don't know about ffxiv = means i'll look for it, maybe go on this forum, and see hundreds of people complaining about pretty much every aspect of the game, what would you do if you were in Mr Smith's shoes?

To prove this i'll ask you all a question: If a revolutionary patch would come out tomorrow on let's say, Eden Eternal, or maybe League of Legend (random mmo's) and actually make it the BEST game ever, Would you know about it? ^_-

How about telling them to do storyline quests or some of the sidequests? Geez

It added the foundations for a solid game, but people should wait a little so that SE has time to fix the pacing of the game. Right now, things are just all over the place.

The patch is somewhat of a double-edged sword... But I think ultimately customers who are new to the game or coming from other MMOs might become frustrated if there aren't solid implementations for both party and solo play.

On a side note, keeping leveling predominantly party-centric could (and probably will) hurt retention of new players gained after an expansion pack release, if for the sole reason that they will have no one to level with and will grow bored of solo grinding pretty fast XD (though solid content definitely helps keep new players motivated).
