All the time and money you have spent on your account to risk RMT's vendoring all of your gear, items and taking every last Gil.
Deleting your characters and canceling your Account.
No Thank you Sir, I would rather not risk that.
That's just a generalized fear not based on fact. One would assume if you're going to all the trouble of hacking an account you'd want to make sure there's a lot of in game currency... I doubt I have enough to make it worth the time of these mysterious rmt hackers.
I have this discussion many times... & it's always "but the rmt's", "but the hackers", "but the children", "but the 'ohno's". None of my other game accounts have ever been hacked. But they can still have those damned useless fish.
Just because it hasn't happened to you, doesn't mean it doesn't happen. The biggest use an account is to be compromised is for botting. They take your account and farm daily on it, sending that gil to another account that they did buy. Store it there, then make a level 1 character on your account and start advertising gil until the account is closed. Then they take the next account they stole and do the exact same thing. It really has nothing to do with your gear, and more to do with how fast they can make money off the account by botting before the account is cancelled.
Just out of curiosity: Are you guys looking into this all from the Mog Station? Or from the Square-Enix Account Management page?

Mog Station redirects you to the Square Enix Account Management Page when you click One-Time Password.

I am guessing you have a android or windows phone as a few FC members who have lost or reset their phones have had problems.
Not to be a dick or anything but this works 100% on iOS and really is a flaw in the Phone OS, your preferences including your serial number in the application when you recover from a backup. As I have been playing with iOS 8 beta's I have wiped my phone many times with no problems starting the One Time Password App and it having my settings restored as expected.
Jeez, all the people having a go at the guy. I use the one time password set up and never at any point was I informed about this emergency removal code (and yes I read all emails etc.) It's definitely something I'll look into now though.
As for OP, hope you get things sorted.
I am sure someone else has suggested it but here I go...Is this thing really worth the trouble? For some reason the phone app has reset. In order to reactivate the phone app you need a password provided by your ?Mog Station account? To get into your Mog Station account you need your one time password.
This isn't the first time this has happened, I'm pretty sure the only fix is to call SE and play 20 questions unless there's something I don't know about. Which of course is during business hours only.
Anyone besides me see a problem with this?
I use two-way authentication (One Time Passwords) for everything from Google, Microsoft, Blizzard, Arenanet, etc accounts.
Yes, your issue has come up a couple of times on my end. However...
An easy way to fix this is by emailing yourself or creating a draft under an already protected email account, that you know you can access with ease, despite two-way authentication security, such as Google/Gmail.
Then, you can store your security/password code provided by the service and if something goes wrong, it's just a few clicks away.
I haven't had any problems by doing this.
Sure, it's a little bothersome to us, but it's definitely worth the additional security wall.

Just curious, is there an emergency removal password for those that have the hardware token?
What would be the method to gain access if your token stops working?
I've tried to figure this out before but could not.
EXAMPLE: https://secure.square-enix.com/accou...vc/coercioncan
This removal form only references the soft-token. What if you have a hardware token? Odd there is no corresponding form.
I ask because I got my hardware token when they first started offering them with FFXI. It must be 7 years old. Gonna die sometime soon >.<
