Can we get an interactive in- game "Lore Book"? (FFT style)

I think this feature would be great. If we could get a compendium of the lore of areas, people, tribes, events, etc etc.

Final Fantasy Tactics and Star Ocean III had this and it was extremely easy to get lost in all of it. Really hope the dev team is thinking about doing something like this.

Seems like they're slowly working this in. I read the interview with Fernehawles on Gamerescape and he said things like the Sightseeing Log are the start of how to get more Lore tidbits to the players in an accessible medium.

I'm still waiting to hear if they will implement that library of "prohibited books" written in the Eorzean alphabet. I know it's a long shot, but holy cow that would be awesome!

I think some form of Codex system would be pretty awesome! Every time you enter a new area or interact with a new NPC or hear a new key term, a Codex Entry unlocks for that subject and gives a fair bit of background intel, or at least anything that doesn't spoil the story up to the point the player is playing through, with updates to said Codex as the player progresses further.

As someone who RPs as a proud native son of Ul'dah (technically born in Camp Bluefog, but it's still land controlled by Ul'dah), I would love to know more about the various elements. The Sultana, The Syndicate, The Immortal Flames and how they were founded, etc., because I feel that, to my character, that would all be common knowledge.

The way you just described it Hakuro, is almost exactly the same way the Lore information worked in Star Ocean: Till the End of Time, as you progressed through the story and sidequests you slowly unlocked more history of the universe you were playing in and even the 4th dimension which was also a part of the game, or rather, the "game" since the it was a virtual world that was fully active long enough it somehow formed Artificial Intelligence of its own and also became more "real" like the real world. Crazy game, but it was a lot of fun and the lore section filled up a lot by the time you cleared the story and sidequests and even the extra dungeon after clearing the story itself.

I'd love some more lore too.

Duskwight lore seems kind of lacking even after reading as much as I could about it in the 1.0 archives.

But not just that. More over-all lore would be very welcomed.

I'd like some sort of a lore journal myself. I mean the journal has some stuff but probably not everything. I'd like to see a lore only area in the journal that takes a topic and makes it it's own.

I would not mind a journal of, at least, history of certain citys, key people, organizations, and of all the different tribes.

However I would be worried about them burying some stuff to deep like what happened in Final Fantasy 13, where the codex was required in that one to know anything at all which is a horrible game design.

I acknowledge that this is a common fear. However, unlike FFXIII, this game actually seems to share a lot of information in dialogue and environment. The way the story of FFXIV is told, I can see a lore codex being more supplemental information than anything that would need to be known for any part of the story to make sense.

In short, XIV tells its story infinitely better than XIII did, and that's why a lore codex would work very well for this game, where it failed to work for XIII.

That's true, XIII has to be the only game I've known that uses a codex to tell a story, rather than to add to a story.
