I can agree that doing this solo will probably be enough to drive people mad but in a group it shouldn't be that hard to handle. Buying the materia will always be faster but really i don't see the point of finishing Novus so fast as the next phase probably isn't gonna be for awhile anyways.
HQ gear melded with materia you don't need (elemental resist) + Spiritbond potion + gear that increase spiritbond + FATE party in Northern Thanalan == plenty of materia and chance of Alexandrites.
