    Very new player - character selection impact at endgame

    Hi there,

    I'm a very new player, probably spent about an hour playing this evening, if that.

    I'm experienced in other MMOs and enjoy endgame raiding, but in my experience, character selection has not had an impact on stats or resistances etc. How much of an impact does it make in FFXIV?

    I started with a miko'ta lancer with the intention of becoming a dragoon - is this a bad choice? I'd also like a paladin for endgame tanking - would I be overlooked for endgame raids if I didn't go with a highlander?

    Thanks in advance

    There's no discernible difference between races at end game, so you have nothing to worry about. Make whatever you want.

    All characters can (currently) achieve maximum proficiency in any and all jobs with no restrictions. Your class decisions at creation have no bearing on your endgame opportunities.

    As far as stats go, there is a very minor difference between the races/clans, but at 50 these differences are insignificant because the stat gaps do not grow in size as you level up (a difference of 1~7 stat points is a drop in the bucket when we're currently rocking 500+ of our main stat)

    In the topic of tanks and races, I think choosing the race with the highest Vitality gives you a grand total of around 100 extra health which is really nothing.

    all stats varies by +3 to -3 with your race selection.

    In terms of efficiency, it makes a difference of :

    => + or -45 HP
    => +/- 5-30 MP
    => +/6 3 damage (out of 300-1200 generally..)

    elemental resistances are worth nothing.

    Not worth the trouble of min/maxing

    SE deliberately kept racial stat differences to a minimum, both so that people could feel free to play the race they prefer aesthetically, and probably also because it makes it easier for those who want to advance all the classes/jobs on the same character.

    It's only in the very early levels that the differences are significant, but early-level content is easy enough you don't need the best stats at that point. By the time content starts getting challenging enough that you start to really care about your stats, those racial differences are already starting to look minor, and they become completely trivial as you level further towards endgame.

    So go ahead and just pick whichever race you like best and whichever class(es) you like best.

    Like others said, it really makes no difference. Play whatever you like the looks of. And in every game I've ever played I've been a min-maxer and enjoyed doing the math to come up with the best build possible.

    Thanks everyone - put my mind at ease. I thought it wouldn't be a problem but didn't want to put in days/weeks leveling only to get told at max level that I wouldn't get raid spots based on the character selection screen.
