    Just change one word ... "attacks" to "weapons". It's based on the weapon's primary use. Melee items need to hit hard, Ranged ones require accuracy to hit the weak/crit spots.

    As for Rogue/Ninja... a DEX mod could be implemented via class/job ability that takes advantage of your DEX along the line of the ARC/BRD ability--temp spikes in crit rate/damage calcs. They'll probably have access to the ARC abilities to that end. Could get traits that mod the boost or cool-down. This could put them in line with traditional setup--lower, steady damage with big spikes from exploiting Crit-Hit mechanics.

    If they leave weapon mods on STR because they are melee style weapons and give them abilities for spike damage influenced by DEX/Crit, it would be in keeping with the current system while also paying homage to past mechanics... could be the "happy medium" if implemented well enough.

    Wouldn't put it past them to still give them DEX traits for the hell of it but they are listed as development abilities in the DATs so only time will tell, approximately in about 4 and a half months including the ever present delays.

    Could of sworn SE was specific when they said melee DPS gear. I would believe Ninja wearing Maiming gear before Aiming (common sense says Striking is their gear). You can tell from various gear designs alone that Maiming is heavy armored melee DPS, Striking is light armored melee DPS, and Aiming is for ranged DPS. The stat system was built to be simple, and easy to understand. Putting Ninja in a DEX slot would go against that ideology. The system they have set up is great. Things like Maiming gear are open to more future heavy armored melee jobs like Dark Knight(assuming they are DPS) and Musketeer be put in the same aiming gear as Archer. Such a simple system and easy to fit in jobs. Even a lot of DEX heavy gear is designed to look like something a ranged attacker would wear. Imagine a Ninja in the Ballad set over the Fuma set from CT, it doesn't make sense.

    The argument of "Ohh they could just change it around". The question is...why? First off I doubt it will happen not until very far in the future at least if they believe the stat system needs to be revamped. Rogue/Ninja and other various jobs that already have been created are already designed to work with the stat system they created at the beginning. Rogue/Ninja were likely made early in development of ARR and now just seeing the light. If stats were being altered to cater to one job, I doubt Rogue/Ninja would come out by 2.4, expansion at earliest.

    In short, you are all thinking too hard. Yoshi-P said melee gear, its obvious Ninja is going to use Striking gear, how is this even a discussion? You are all scraping the bottom of the barrel to find any justification of them using DEX.
