Attribute points are obtained by leveling up the class, not the job. In fact, you start obtaining them before you can even unlock a job, and keep obtaining them even if you were to level up without using the soul stone, so I can see why they can't make them job-related.

However they said that they're working on a way to make it easier for us to re-set them at will. Not something I'd do every time I swap from SMN to SCH, but hey, some people may be just perfectionist enough to do it.

Personally, I put all my ACN points into Piety. Least I know it will help both SMN and SCH.

Hmm I'm going a straight half/half for my smn/sch I don't have plans on doing any serious content with them anyway - still bard at heart with whm as second(and after this week should be gearing it with sol).

Do BLM and WHM share attribute points? Oh "but you levelz 2 jobs by just levelling one claz", I don't care, if I have to level SCH and SMN separate I will, but I can't see WHY I can't play both at full potential. We are talking about a healer and a DPS role, COMPLETELY DIFFERENT. It's as if you tell me now that if you play PLD you can't play BRD because they share attribute points because...how was it again? "the game needs some aspect of player choice".

Sadly, it's one of the reasons you see so many BLMs and so many few SMNs. Assuming you are into healing, if you happen to like SCH more than WHM (which happens easily given how dull and boring the WHM is), if you want to play a caster class, your only viable option is the BLM. That's a terrible idea, TERRIBLE idea.

It's the class that get stat points. whatever you put on class, carries over to both jobs. you wont get points/job.
the entire point of dividing SCH/SMN, was to make you pick ONE job....with an option to swap...for a cost. Lowering that cost to 1000 seals, would be ridiculous, and make the entire point of using hymn to swap, moot.
just stick to either smn OR sch, or split it 50/50, or go all INT. SCH needs crit, more than mnd; sch is damage mitigation rather than cure-bomb. If you crit-heal 1500 with adloq, target gets 3000HP shield also. So loosing 30mnd isn't a big deal. But that's just if you're planning to play both SCH and SMN, equally. Better to just stick to one, and let the other one be *slightly gimped* it will still be very much viable.

    it's not the same thing...
Aracanist has both heal skills, and damage skills. you branch ACN into either SCH focusing on heals, OR SMN focusing on DPS.
You can't compare BRD to PLD...they have different base classes. If you want to tank, you switch the class, if you want ranged DD with bard, you need to change class.
With SCH/SMN you're the same class, so you get your stat points from the class.

It's a dumb limitation. The class system shouldn't even be here, no one uses it anyway, everyone just uses jobs. A huge point of this game is that one character can be all classes/jobs. By splitting smn and sch on one class it's proof that they won't get rid of the class system and just makes it so both those jobs can't be at their full potential if you want to play both.

And it will only get worse as more jobs are added to existing classes. Watch when/if drk becomes attached to gladiator

    not true.
in pvp, ppl go as MRD, and GLD, because WAR/PLD, dont have any useful skills for pvp, cause you can't aggro/tank ppl.
    also archer.

Just do a 50/50 split or put them all in PIE or something...

It is a redundant feature to be honest, and a prime example of how games create an illusion of choice. I'm surprised they kept this feature when cutting the fat from v1.0 but removed other great features (open world NM's, elemental wheel etc.)
