So this has now moved from an annoyance to outright bane of my existence. I swear its enough to make me want to quit the game totally some days.

Since the patch where the new rod was put in, I have been working on this on and off with botany and cooking.

I am now done with my hat and axe. Got my glasses and my skillet. Finished my "Ambitious Angler" title quest. And yet, still not 1 HQ silver sovereign at all after 30 hours easily and 27 NQ silver sovereigns. I even rarely catch the normal ones. Sometimes I can go an hour or two without one.

I have 327 gathering and 269 perception with HQ tomato pies. I dont think at this point stats matter anymore, thats higher than most people have catching them. I just dont know anymore....its like the game is laughing at me.

At least I found someone in the same boat as me. Everyone I ever talk to ingame about it says they catch a HQ one for every 2 or so NQ ones and its an hour or two - maybe 3 hours tops on average to get one HQ. I then want to strangle them afterwards of course

For me (on two different alts) it's about 1 HQ to 5 NQ ratio. Exchange NQ for the food and rinse repeat. Fish on night to avoid pulling Mahi-Mahi or use Mahis for crafting food or sell. Took me about a week to get first rod and then hat with a couple of hours of fishing each day. What lure or bait are you using?

Yumizuno lure, I try to only fish at night since mahi wont be out but sometimes I just keep going if I am bored and get them to sell. I fished again yesterday for a couple hours and got 2 more NQ but again, no HQ at all.

I am about to the point of giving up on it until they change something for people like me who are just cursed by the RNG Gods. I dont know what else to change or do to increase my odds.

Me and my FC mate started yesterday. 326 gathering/299 Perception (HQ Landtrap Salad). We've both caught 9 in about 3.5 RL hours of fishing. Use the FC perks and upgrade your right side if you haven't to the ilvl 70 stuff so you can gain the +5 Gathering/Perception from melding them.

How frustrating. I was at 44 NQ when I hit my 20 HQ. Is it possible that the size of the fish biting the bait is based off gathering? I thought gathering only effected if it could be reeled in. Either that or RNG is torturing you.

At the time I had fully overmelded gear except wasn't using i70 accessories. Then would keep HQ Tomato Pie active. I'd fish any time of day for 50 minutes. If it wasn't a big fish I wouldn't reel it in, so I'd only Hook if it was a big strike to get more casts in. Every 50 minute session gave me 2 HQ except for 2 of those sessions where it was 1 HQ.

I was in the same boat and can feel your pain, got my rod last week and have been trying since the Patch 2.2 was released. Even with very good stats, you still get a hell lot of NQ Sovereigns. I got all the Level 70 tools and the hat for myself AND also for my three DOL retainers. So all in all 4 hats and 3 tools just from harvesting the unspoiled nodes for Botanists and Miner. It took some time but progress was always visible and when I was done with them all, I had gotten 7 Sovereigns in HQ in the meantime while using my fisher lol. The rest took me over a month longer.

Keep going, they will come in over time. Try with Spinach Quiche HQ boosting both Gathering and Perception or use the items you can exchange in Mor Dhona for 5 Sovereigns (boosting Perception). Additonally, ask your FC to apply Perception buff if possible. Also replacing Accessoires with Item Level 70 accesoires that can hold up 5 of Gathering and Perception will help to speed the process up. Fisher doesn't need GP so you can easily replace the DOL items with Items for combat classes.

So after trying just + perception food and getting around 283 perception I went for a couple hours to try yet again. Results were 4 NQ and again, no HQ at all.

I dont think doing the I70 accessories would be worth it, people have caught all their HQ sovereigns with 220 and if 280ish isnt good enough for me +5 more is a drop in the bucket. I mean really, if 60 freaking points higher isnt good enough I dont know what 5 more will do.

I think the worst part of this soul sucking disgusting debacle is the fact I am still trying for the VERY FIRST ONE. Its not like I am stuck on 12 or 6 or some other arbitrary number, I cant even get the first damn one. If the first one is taking this much of my life to even get, what the hell is the rest going to be like if I ever manage to snag the SOB.

Its to the point I dread even logging into the whole game and each day its driving me to want to just quit totally. I dont know who at SE thought this was a good idea for fishing in general to be so RNG based and still require the quest to need 20 HQ, but I would love to have a nice long talk with them.....alone.

I don't know what to tell you. I went through about 4 landtrap salads yesterday and got another 9 putting me at 18/20 after my 2nd day of attempting fishing these. I assume you're using Yumizuno of course but are you doing the bulk of your fishing during an Eorzean day or at night? It's obviously easier to even see NQ at night because then the Mahi-Mahi stop showing up and that's when I've caught the bulk of mine.
