There's a game called Animal Crossing that lets you upkeep your town and it turns to crap if you don't maintain it often. Go try that.

the only novus that doesn't cost a min of 6 mil is a whm's; every dps will be using criticla hit, thats 300k for stage 2, 600k for stage3 and 3mil + for stage 4 assuming 0 brakes. so for crit alone, with 1 fail stage 3 +, thats 4mil gil. add in determination if your a job that uses that and your at 9+ mil. you can buy a small fc house for the cost of a novus, why would players wan't to spend their gil repair someone else house for them, when that player is to lazy to upkeep their house? what benefit would it have outside of helping the lazy?

This is about as funny as stapling your eyelids open. If you’re trying to crack a joke, then stop.

    Please.

The very idea of stimulating an economy is to inject money to promote purchasing goods or services. A gil sink like what the OP is suggesting is something that destroys gil (no player gets it) and is therefore the exact opposite of a form of stimulation.

I support this in a way to show FCs that have not been active. As in no members logging in over months of time. However, I really don't like the idea of living in a run down neighborhood and/or having an eyesore next door.

I have to see Detroit too often in real life, I don't want to see it in game as well. No to this idea.

A big resounding "NO" it seems. Well I of course liked the idea, but won't go no where if no one likes it. I do appreciate the feedback, at least the ones that gave real answers. To the others... __________.

I've played a game where you could have personal housing and even set up play ran cities. Both of those required an upkeep cost as a way to funnel funds out of the game. The cost of buying them though was far, far lower than it is in FFXIV. Even with that, the main problem that came up was people felt as though they were locked in to the game and couldn't take a break. If things happened in real life that prevented them from playing, they could lose everything. With that in mind, the costs and penalties for not maintaining the structures eventually got reduced to the point where it became meaningless.

For something like this to work, the initial purchase amounts would need to be 50% at best of what they are now. I'd actually suggest only 25% of their current value would be needed in order for the system to work. Then you would need to establish either a weekly or monthly amount that needed to be paid. This amount would need to be automatically deducted from the Free Company's funds. As you point out, this is supposed to be a group effort but there is nothing to compel members to donate to these funds. To address that, you'd need to either have an option at the FC Leader level where they could "tax" the amount of gil that a player has coming in, or have a new Company Action where a bonus 10%/20% of all gil earned was donated to the Free Company. Even after adding all of this, you still will have yet to address the main question; what value does something like this bring to the Free Company Housing system?

Is the core idea a good one?
No, the core idea is an awful one. I personally don't have a big FC, it is literally just me. I got the FC signatures and leveled it to rank 6 (now 8) by myself so that I could buy a house and something that had wear costs enough that an entire FC would need to chip in would essentially mean I would have to work full time simply making gil and not playing the game for fun. Your idea would mean having to turn this game into a job just to sustain the property. It sucks enough to have to do that in reality, having to do it in the game would be awful.
